Fans eager for more ninja-themed media should mark their calendars. Crunchyroll has announced that Sekiro: No Defeat, a fully hand-drawn anime adaptation by KADOKAWA, Qzil.la, and ARCH, will start streaming as a series in January 2027.
The series will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide, except in Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus. It will consist of eight episodes and include new content beyond the current theatrical version showing in Japan.

Originally planned for a three-week theatrical run, Sekiro: No Defeat will continue in Japanese theaters due to strong demand. Before its Japanese release, the film was part of Annecy’s “Feature Films: Midnight Specials” and had its North American debut at the Fantasia International Film Festival.
What is Sekiro: No Defeat about?
An adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the award-winning 2019 video game from FromSoftware, Sekiro: No Defeat expands on Sekiro, also known as Wolf, and Kuro’s journey. This all comes about when the shinobi Sekiro must rescue Kuro, also known as the Divine Heir, who has been kidnapped by nefarious forces for unknown reasons. Set in the Sengoku period of Japan’s history, a time of chaos and uncertainty in the midst of seemingly endless conflict, this is no better property to adapt to capture viewers’ attention.

What is the release date?
The Sekiro: No Defeat anime will stream on Crunchyroll starting in January 2027. A specific date hasn’t been announced yet, so keep an eye out for updates. The theatrical cut of the anime has made its way through the festival circuit and is now playing in Japan.
