It’s a new month, and that means a new Madden 27 Title Update. As with any EA Sports title, the way the game launches is usually how it ends up. The Madden 27 October Title Update keeps the focus firmly on the field for Defense and also giving a special eye to salary cap problems too.
The Madden 27 October Title Update is fixing the “untargeted defender” and it’s the most talked about element of this update. And for fun, the EA Sports devs also invited Rodgers Realm into the studio to capture four brand new celebration animations exclusively for Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers. But these are just small things in the larger Madden 27 October Title Update.
So, like usual, we’re here to break down the highlights of this October Update. But if you’d like to check out the unfiltered patch notes, you can read the full EA Sports Madden 27 October Title Update patch notes in the Gridiron Notes here.

Madden 27 October Title Update: Gameplay Changes – Defense
HIGHLIGHT: Untargeted Defenders are now, truly, untargeted. Changes in this update mean defenders will now completely ignore “Untargeted” users.
HIGHLIGHT: Coverage calls, Pounder, Roll Ring, Roll King, and Cover 9 have been adjusted so quarters safeties will now match verticals regardless of underneath man/match assignments by teammates—which will hopefully help players against the throw-it-deep-and-pray players in their Franchises and online.
Other Defensive Changes:
- Slightly tuned the Double or Nothing Ability to be less effective across all ability tiers.
- Fixed an issue where DBs would switch assignments in Combo and Point Combo when the receiver is blocking
- Players outside of the tackle box will no longer be targeted with Empty Protection unless manually ID’d.
Madden 27 October Title Update: Gameplay Changes – Franchise Mode

HIGHLIGHT: Despite my note at the top, it seems EA Sports devs know Franchise is more finicky this year. Below is a note from the developers about the adjustments to Franchise
Hey Madden fans!
In our last Title Update, we mentioned that additional salary-cap and CPU roster-management fixes were in progress. This update continues that work, alongside fixes to player progression, contracts, and custom roster and Custom Draft Classes. If you want to receive all of the Salary Cap updates that we included in this Title Update, we recommend that players start new Franchise Leagues, all of the additional updates will not require new leagues.
HIGHLIGHT: CPU Roster Management is getting a focus, like noted above. The devs addressed inflated contract bonuses and CPU handling of large contracts that contributed to salary-cap problems as leagues progressed, which seemed to be one of the larger issues for players. For a list of CPU adjustments, see below:
- Teams are less likely to restructure contracts when their roster needs don’t call for it.
- Fixed an issue that could leave recovered players stuck on a CPU team’s injured reserve.
- CPU teams will no longer sign non-exclusive franchise-tagged low-value players in free agency and will cut low-performing players, letting them into Free Agency for human users to pick up.
- CPU salary-cap decisions now account for cap space carried over from the previous season, adding more parity to leagues’ cap woes.

HIGHLIGHTS: Contracts have been a consistent issue this year in Madden 27 thanks to the new player DNA feature that pushes players into contract negotiations that you have to complete. But with that comes differences with managing your cap. Which wasn’t alays set. The devs have corrected salary-cap calculations involving contract incentives when extending, releasing, or trading players and also corrected restructure calculations on contracts with void years.
Other salary cap changes:
- Improved the consistency of the annual Dynamic Salary Cap adjustment by correcting the financial data used at season rollover.
- Fifth-year option money is now applied to guaranteed salary instead of signing bonus.
- Added the “Next Year’s Cap” readout to player extension conversations.
Madden 27 October Title Update Changes: Player Progression & Wear and Tear
- Addressed excessive player progression during multi-season simulation.
- Developers fixed an issue where CPU players could still show Wear and Tear effects when the setting was turned off.
