It’s time for EA Sports Madden NFL 27‘s first major update, and, well, it doesn’t fix the menu lag, or the fact that you can’t upgrade the same player twice in a row, or that when you back out of a player card, it reverts your menu view and puts you back into the larger Free Agent pool, removing all of your sorting. But, I digress. Instead, the Madden 27 September Title Update focuses on general gameplay fixes and lets users know EA Sports knows it has Franchise problems.
While Franchise Mode gets a larger section of changes and updates in the Madden 27 September Title Update, there is still more to do. Franchise Mode has been in shambles since launch. Even in my 32-man league, half of us got to unlock abilities and playsheets with our intro interviews, and half of us are, well, at a significant disadvantage. But that’s better than last year’s blip, right? But EA Sports is putting its sights on different elements of Franchise to note.
As usual, we’ve summed up everything from the Madden 27 September Title Update, with the highlights as the focus. If you’d like to see the nitty-gritty of the update, you can head to the “Madden NFL 27 Gridiron Notes” here.
Madden 27 September Title Update: Gameplay Changes

Offensive Gameplay Changes
Offensive Highlight: EA Sports has tuned QB throws to extend the default pass lead distance when throwing to a receiver running downfield and addressed an issue where QBs would “Super Dive” when users attempted to slide near the first down.
Defensive Gameplay Changes
Defensive Highlight: Coverage improvements in the Madden 27 September Title Update take jostle into focus. EA Sports has addressed an issue where Wide Receivers would not fully accelerate out of a jostle win and tuned Jostle animations so Receivers can keep better separation from lower-rated DBs.
More coverage adjustments can be found below:
- Man coverage gets a nerf with Man Press now increasing the Penalty for shading in the wrong direction of the release.
- Defender Press coverage gets an improvement when the User is attempting to press or jam at the line
- Coverage shells will now be represented when called
- Users can now stay in strafe while in Ballhawk

Madden 27 September Title Update: Franchise Mode Changes

Highlight: To kick off this section, the EA Sports Madden developers had a note which is featured below, highlighting some more longstanding CPU logic that needs to be tuned:
Hey Madden fans! This Title Update focuses on the areas you’ve provided feedback on that matter most: online-league stability, free agency realism, contract and retirement logic, and CPU salary-cap behavior. The fixes in today’s Title Update will be applied to all existing Franchise Leagues. We will continue to monitor your feedback and tune your experience in future updates. Here is a list of what you can expect for tomorrow!
Free Agency Changes

The newly added player negotiations haven’t been working as planned with Free Agents. We’ve now addressed its two biggest issues.
- User Highlight: Adjusting the difficulty of Free Agent conversations was a focus for the Madden 27 September Title Update. Now, when users submit the top offer for a free agent, you should win them far more often. This is because players now weigh offers on both best fit and total contract value, and evaluate offers in OVR order during Free Agent Frenzy so the top players sign first.
- CPU Highlight: Teams now pursue multiple players at a position of need instead of one at a time, re-evaluating their needs each hour and withdrawing once a need is filled. This means CPU teams in your Franchise will stop chasing players they no longer need and won’t stockpile signings at a single position.
Other Franchise Changes
Highlight: For everyone looking to ride Josh Allen or Baker Mayfield (or any number of 30+ franchise QBs) for their franchises this year, QBs with higher overall ratings are now less likely to retire in their early 30s. This helps match real-world careers, where a 42-year-old QB can still start for a team… Blame Aaron Rodgers. Additionally, HBs are now also less likely to retire early in their careers.
- Salary Cap Highlight: Reduced how often CPU teams compulsively restructure large contracts, which includes the developers making it so that CPU teams avoid taking on massive dead-cap hits and won’t chase signings that push them too far over next year’s cap. The devs also note that they are still looking at how to alleviate the speed at which CPU teams meet Cap-Hell.
- Online Franchise Leagues Changes Highlight: Fixed additional softlocks and script losses around starting and advancing a Franchise. This fix specifically targets the disconnect-and-lockout scenarios.
Madden 27 September Title Update: Superstar Changes

For these updates, the developers explained that they were pushing for more stability in Superstar, which led them to focus on tuning Wear and Tear, Superstar progression, Showdown, the Storefront, Sphere of Influence, and the GOAT Journey. Still, this section had much less depth in terms of tuning and changes but here are the highlights:
- Superstar Progression Highlight: The developers addressed stability issues that could cause players to get stuck or be unable to continue from certain points in the game, like after importing a Road to Glory player and completing the NFL Combine, selecting Training, or viewing Team Stats after a game.
- GOAT Journey Highlight: Fixed issues where the Simulation Recap could incorrectly display a GOAT Score of 0 and where Quarterbacks could be forced to retire after four seasons instead of the intended 12-season career
Madden 27 September Title Update: Presentation Changes

Highlight: The primary focus of the Madden 27 September Title Updates to Presentation is fixing broadcast packages and ensuring the Halftime Report and Weekly Recap match what happens in-game.
- VO Update Highlight: Addressed the issue where VO would sometimes be inaccurate when describing the weather in a highlight
- Players no longer run through the edge walls at the following stadiums: Allianz Arena, Dublin Stadium, and Tottenham Hotspur.
- The sack totals in the Sack Leaders segment now display half sacks.
- The names and headshots of generated players now appear in the MVP Race segment.
- The correct Super Bowl logo now appears on the field during highlights from the Super Bowl.
General Presentation Fixes
