During MagicCon: Amsterdam, the Preview Panel from Wizards of the Coast unveiled the first details about the new sets on the horizon for MagicCon 2027 and new sets too.
The panel featured a special focus on the Magic Multiverse, with one story arc ending with the October 2nd launch of Reality Fracture and another beginning in 2027 with all-new sets including: Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, Kamigawa: Titanbreach, and Zhalfir. But that wasn’t all! They also revealed the Magicon Event line-up, which includes MagicCon Tokyo.

MagicCon has been one of the best experiences I’ve had as both a member of the press and a fan. With dedicated spaces for play, artists to take the spotlight, and a place to just meet others who love The Gathering part of Magic as much as anything else. Having only been to two so far, MagicCon Atlanta 2025 and MagicCon Las Vegas 2026, the vibes were immaculate and the locations perfect.
That said, during the Preview Panel, it was revealed that while MagicCon Atlanta will close out 2026, 2027 will see a new location in the heart of the Midwest take its place as the second US-focused MagicCon. As someone in the South, MagicCon Atlanta was a way for me not just to feel at home with The Gathering, but also to see that the region, the most diverse in the United States, still matters in pop culture.
But now as Atlanta heads to the bulk bin, players will get a chance to explore two new cities: Detroit and Tokyo. While Detroit takes up the mantle and region of the US that MagicCon Chicago did, it leaves a certain part of the US underserved. That said, the establishment of a MagicCon Tokyo has the chance to bring The Gathering to Asia, especially with the upcoming return to Kamigawa in Kamigawa: Titanbreach, scheduled for a couple of weeks after that event.
So while I mourn being in the heart of College Football during the season and playing Magic in a sports bar when the con doors close, I’m looking forward to seeing who else can join the Gathering now that the locations have changed.
