The brand-new EA Sports FC 27 gameplay trailer has given fans their first look at what’s coming in the latest edition of the EA Sports football franchise. The trailer includes a glimpse at the all-new FUT Gallery, a spotlight on the “true-to-life gameplay” improvements across all modes, and The Grounds.
The Grounds is a brand-new development for the EA Sports FC (formerly EA Sports FIFA) franchise. Taking a cue from NBA 2K’s The City and other open worlds that have become effortlessly popular with young audiences, like what we see in Fortnite, The Grounds will put social interaction first as a social playground open world for users to explore.

While we will have to wait for more specific information, the EA Sports FC 27 gameplay trailer did give us a look at the upcoming areas in The Grounds, a look at a mentor users will interact with, a tease of the clothing store, and even a brief conversation with the 2026 World Cup’s Golden Boot winner, Kylian Mbappé.

What is The Grounds?
The Grounds is an all-new social football playground that represents a side of football that’s never existed in EA Sports FC. This new mode is meant to expand the Clubs experience with casual, fast-paced kickabouts and even top-tier competition.
In the trailer, we see a shot of the store where users will be able to buy new clothing and equipment, see the open world chat options, and it even makes note of The Grounds Mentors, icons that players interact with in the mode to fulfill quests and more. Fans will progress and personalize their player as they develop their game on and off the pitch, and do it with their friends too.
Who are the Mentors in The Grounds?
As of right now, the FC 27 gameplay trailer revealed a few of the real-life Mentors: Kylian Mbappé, Chloe Kelly, and Paulo Dybala. But that’s not all that we got to see in the trailer. Fans also got a glimpse of the return of Alex Hunter.
If you’re unfamiliar, Alex Hunter was the protagonist of The Journey, a long-forgotten but beloved mode in EA Sports from FIFA 17 through FIFA 19. After years away, The Grounds has given the studio a chance to bring back a fan-favorite alongside the very best in the sport.
While Alex made an appearance in FIFA 20’s Volta story mode, outside of that, we haven’t seen much from him. It seems like this new social mode will be the perfect chance to bring a bit of the franchise’s history back.
What Districts will be in The Grounds?
In the trailer, audiences also got a chance to see where exactly they will be playing in the open-world mode. Players will explore three districts inspired by football heritage: Parkside District, Zeiza District, and Montclair District.
While we don’t know much about each individual district, you can see the inspirations from some of football’s most notable places that have given us the greats. The Zeiza District evokes South American football cities, like those that gave Brazilian football its unique flair. The park-focused nature of Parkside speaks to communities with wide open space for a proper pitch, and finally, the Montclair District speaks to the concrete jungles that taught the very best, akin to the suburbs of Paris.
While we will still need to see more to learn about the game’s inspirations and what they each offer, it’s exciting to see.
