The last few years have seen a significant resurgence in classic horror films, receiving updates and the sequel treatment. 2023 alone had films such as Evil Dead Rise, The Exorcist: Believer, and Saw X. 2024 is continuing this trend of bringing older horror stories back from the dead with The First Omen. Now, get your first look at the film’s official poster as we prepare for its release on April 5th via 20th Century Studios.

What is The First Omen About?

When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.

The film, directed by Arkasha Stevenson (Vessels, Legion), is a direct prequel to the 1976 film The Omen, directed by Richard Donner. Seeing how the film can build on the franchise will be interesting. One of the best elements of the resurrected horror genre — with franchises such as Scream and Halloween — is how modern writers and directors infused new ideas into timeless stories of fear and trauma. While The First Omen is a prequel rather than a follow-up, it still allows a fresh filmmaker the daunting chance to give an update to a classic.
