Following its first season’s immense popularity and critical success, the Netflix series Squid Game is returning for a second season. Netflix has released first-look images that plunge viewers straight back into the stressful drama. Squid Game Season 2 is set to return later this year, which is no surprise since the series has remained Netflix’s most popular for over two years following its release.

Director and series Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk returns following his triumphant first season, which saw him win an Emmy for Outstanding Director for a Drama Series. Hwang resumes his role as director, writer, and producer.

Season 1 followed Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) as he entered into a mysterious game alongside 455 other players, all in financial trouble. Watched at all times, the players engage in childhood games where losing means brutal death. The series tremendously impacted viewers as we watched beloved characters die horribly as Gi-hun made alliances and reconnected with a childhood friend.

Squid Game Season 2

The first look images accompany a clip from Squid Game Season 2 as part of the “Next on Netflix” trailer. Taking place right after the end of the season 1 finale, the clip portrays a new Gi-hun with pink hair as he’s about to make a critical decision. The last time viewers saw Gi-hun, he’d decided to go to Los Angeles to reunite with his daughter. Season 2 sees him absconding his US plans following a mysterious call as he embarks on a new chase with a motive.

The series is returning in all of its red light green light thrilling glory but the plot itself remains a mystery as of right now. With the exception of this, shared by Netflix:

Squid Game Season 2 will also welcome other beloved characters back, like Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and Recruiter (Gong Yoo). Adding to the intrigue, a new character, played by Park Gyu-young, makes her debut, sparking curiosity about the new character.
