MachineGames previewed the first gameplay footage for the upcoming Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, due out later this year. The award-winning studio of the Wolfenstein series presented at this year’s Xbox Developer Direct. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes place between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, with Troy Baker (The Last of Us) voicing Indy himself.

The developers seek to bridge the gap between making a video game and a movie. Executive Producer Todd Howard shared his desire to make an Indiana Jones-based game for a long time and his belief in MachineGames being the perfect studio to produce it. He went on to state that the excitement bled throughout the entire production.

The globe-trotting game will see Indy travel to Rome, the ancient pyramids, and the snowy peaks of the Himalayas. It will introduce new allies in the form of an investigative reporter and an antagonist who works to get under your skin.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

The gameplay footage highlighted the developers’ belief that the Indiana Jones series is the “ultimate adventure.” The first-person game seeks to fully put the player in the character’s shoes to absorb the rich, interactive world being built fully. Experience everything from cracking a whip to solving a puzzle to seeing how your knuckles bloody while fighting an opener. While you play the game in first person, cutscenes pull the camera back to third-person. This allows some of Indy’s iconic signature moments to shine through.

Puzzles and cleverness are pivotal to the game. While some obstacles are combat-related, the game often asks that you find a different solution. From different paths to take to observing enemy patrols or using tools at your disposal, the game wants you to think as Indiana Jones does. Melee, stealth, and more are part of the combat options.

The whip itself in Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is a main highlight. The tool is multi-use, with players able to use it to traverse around, as a distraction, and as a weapon.

When Will Indiana Jones and The Great Circle Be Released

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle will release later in 2024.
