REVIEW: ‘Powerwash Simulator 2’ Star Wars DLC Is An Original Trilogy Love Letter

FuturLab and their smash hit, Powerwash Simulator, surprised many with its great IP pulls for its DLC. Powerwash Simulator 2 keeps the tradition of highly detailed, fun IPs as the basis for its DLC as well. This time, FuturLab and LucasArts are taking us back to the past and a Galaxy Far, Far away with its latest DLC pack being all about Star Wars and the original trilogy.

For any fans of the original three films, the DLC is a massive love letter in its snapshot moments and vehicles chosen as bases for levels. For Powerwash Sim fans, the DLC takes a little step forward with creativity while still not utilizing one of 2’s greatest mechanics enough for big moments. 

The DLC covers almost all of the original Star Wars trilogy. The first level is before Luke leaves to find Old Ben Kenobi, with us cleaning Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru’s moisture farm. This is the first glimpse of how much detail FuturLab was able to fit into this DLC.

Right off the bat, we have a big level that’s full of easter eggs, cute messages, and more. Like we get to clean Luke’s room or the kitchen they all ate in. There are even droids that need cleaning, who activate after getting the final ding and walk around the level. 

Yet when covering a whole trilogy’s worth of classic moments and vehicles, there’s a lot of jumping around in the timeline. After cleaning the Mos Eisley Cantina and an X-Wing (which uses the Powerwash Sim 2 feature of transforming after the whole exterior is cleaned, so we can clean between the wings), we jump ahead to Empire Strikes Back, post-Battle of Hoth. Here, we clean a whole AT-AT on the snowy surface. 

The AT-AT and how big it is isn’t even the largest level in the DLC pack. Even then, it uses the full repertoire of new vehicles and cleaning equipment to reach every single nook and cranny. Like the scissor lift to get the full underside and the wires, and the chair lift to get every inch of the outside body.

Clean your way from Tatooine to Hoth.

Sadly, the AT-AT may be the weakest level, simply because of how hard it is to distinguish the grime on many parts of the vehicle against the silvery metal of the body and the snowy landscape surrounding you. The AT-AT is just hard to make look really dirty compared to the other levels before it.

Thankfully, this is the lowest point of a great DLC and a minor complaint. From the surface of Hoth, we go to the bridge of a Star Destroyer. Another banger of a level that has so many little objects to fill you with the “ding”y goodness. 

Especially once the windows are cleaned, you get to look out into space and see a whole Imperial fleet flying around! Finally, we jump from Empire to the ending of Return of the Jedi. Post-Death Star 2 destruction, during the party on the forest moon of Endor. Sadly, we aren’t at the party; we’re with the Resistance fleet to clean one of the coolest vehicles in science fiction, the Millennium Falcon. 

The DLC doesn’t use transformation effects to its fullest potential, but it’s fun when it does.

The DLC ends on a high note with Han’s ship being the final level. The Falcon itself is deeply detailed and not just a skin over a Falcon-shaped vehicle. Every blast hole, exposed wire, weapon, and window needs to be cleaned down.

It even subtly uses the level transformation mechanic to reveal a smaller turret or two on the outside. Sadly, like the Adventure Time DLC, this one also doesn’t use the level transformation mechanic to its full capacity. Like how cool would it have been to have the Falcon’s boarding ramp open up and we clean the whole inside. 

But there’s only so much a developer can make with finite time and budget. Regardless, FuturLab has created another excellent DLC pack that fans of the Powerwash series will love. It rivals one of the best DLCs in the series, rivaling SpongeBob and Back to the Future packs from the first game.

Fans of Star Wars and Powerwash Sim will have a great time.

Really, FuturLab, with a set number of levels to make, picked some stellar ones out of three whole movies. Like the best hits of what people would want to clean that don’t feel similar to past levels (as in the secret Rebel base’s temple would end up being pretty similar to the last level of Powerwash Sim 1. 

FuturLab has raised the bar in quality for DLC packs once again and has shown they have a great line-up of IPs to pick from this time around. Star Wars DLC pack is six full, detailed levels of classic locations and vehicles to clean as a droid.

Even though the DLC uses the level transformation aspect a little, given how detailed some of the levels are, it doesn’t feel like enough. Beyond that disappointment, fans of Star Wars and Powerwash Sim will have a great time with even more content to play during a hot, hot summer.
