As sports video games get ready for their takeover, 2K has shared a look at NBA 2K27 gameplay with the release of its very first gameplay trailer. The studio’s trailer highlights the latest NBA 2K title’s enhanced graphics and poster moments from across the NBA and WNBA.
While the cover athlete reveal for Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark, and Derrick Rose all featured big moments from those stars, the new NBA 2K27 gameplay trailer also highlights some of the sport’s best, from LeBron James and Anthony Edwards to Jalen Brunson, Paige Bueckers, and Olivia Miles. From buzzer-beaters to celebrations, the first NBA 2K27 gameplay trailer focuses on the heights of professional basketball.

What is new to NBA 2K27 gameplay?
NBA 2K27, the latest iteration of the NBA video game franchise developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K, is looking to build out a more balanced experience for players. Much like Madden and CFB this year, NBA 2K is having to deal with the reality that the game is driven by offense, and over the years that has hurt the defense on display.
It’s only fitting that the larger focus on defense and balance comes right when their cover athlete was the first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year. But on top of adapting the game to its real-life equivalent, 2K has also focused on a “grassroots approach” to updating this game from last year’s by prioritizing community feedback.
In the release that accompanied this first look at gameplay, Visual Concepts stressed that AI defenders will now contest shots more effectively in modes like The REC, with the addition of a new and fully dynamic Dunk Meter that continuously evaluates defensive positioning, which expands the green window for wide-open lanes and shrinks it for late defensive closeouts.
Outside of the general gameplay adjustments, 2K and Visual Concepts also shared more mode-specific information on what players can expect, and specified that many of the game’s additions and changes were direct responses to community feedback. We have to wait until August 18, 2026, for more information; here is what the studio has shared so far before the Preseason Breakdown:
MyPLAYER Builder
- NBA 2K27 expands from 40 to 53 total Badges and adds 19 brand-new ones to push players to experiment and craft unique builds, though 2K
- Based on demand from the community, Cap Breakers are also making a return in NBA 2K27, and their attribute boosts can now be previewed directly inside the Builder.
MyTEAM
- 2K shared that for the first time ever in the franchise’s history, the Auction House is unified across all platforms (PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2), which effectively creates the largest pool of community-listed cards in MyTEAM history. Will the effort help the economy stabilize? Keep finding cards at consistent prices a reality? We’ll have to wait and see, but that seems to be 2K’s goal.

MyNBA
- Updates to MyNBA include highly requested community features to mirror today’s league, such as the salary cap effects of the new CBA’s second apron and the ability to offer No-Trade Clauses to free agents.
MyCAREER & The City
- The City’s lights turn off, and the neon lights come out with a new nighttime aesthetic.
- After community feedback, the City’s layout will replicate last year’s and stay centralized
- Rucker Park has been recreated in the City and will be this year’s MyCAREER proving ground in the prelude story, “Fire & Concrete” and in Street Kings.
