Closing out the festivities of the Summer Game Fest 2026 showcase, Square Enix announced via Director Naoki Hamoguchi and voice actor Matt Mercer (the voice of Vincent Valentine) that the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will be titled Final Fantasy VII: Revelation. In the reveal trailer, we get to see some gameplay from Revelation, offering a glimpse of our familiar cast of characters up against various monsters (some of whom are protectors of the world they’re on).

At the end of the trailer, the reveal of Spring 2027 shows that fans don’t have to wait too long to complete this trilogy. Now is as good a time as any for fans to start their replays of Final Fantasy VII: Remake and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.

But that’s not all that was revealed at Summer Game Fest surrounding Final Fantasy VII: Revelation. After the reveal trailer concluded, fans were greeted with a more thorough introduction to the gameplay and world of the game. In this video, we got to see the following features that players can expect:

Key Features

The Highwind

  • The airship that Cloud and his companions will take throughout Revelation to get to their destination. With this airship, players can journey all throughout the world.
  • Once hovering over their destination, they can descend using parachutes.

New Regions

  • In addition to areas featured in previous entries, players can explore new worlds created specifically for the game.
  • The new worlds are the Mideel Region, a lush tropical forest, and the Wutai Region, home to the descendants of Ninjas.

New Playable Party Members

  • New playable characters offer a wide range of strategic options for players as you work to save the world once more.
  • Vincent Valentine (voiced by Matt Mercer) and Cid Highwind (J. Michael Tatum) will be available for players to use in-game.

New Combat System Fits

  • A new system has been developed for Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, allowing users to change their character’s combat style by equipping different outfits.
  • Some fits will remind players of classic Final Fantasy jobs like the Black Mage and the Warrior, offering abilities specific offensive abilities in line with these occupations.

New Enemy Weapons

  • Weapons are introduced to combat Meteor.
  • However, the Weapons also pose a threat to Cloud, his friends, and the world they aim to protect from Meteor.

What is Final Fantasy VII: Revelation about?

In this climactic conclusion, Cloud Strife and his loyal companions face a world that teeters on the brink of annihilation. Grieving a beloved ally, and with their nemesis Sephiroth nearing godhood, the party takes to the skies aboard the airship Highwind in a race against time to stop Meteor, the ultimate destructive magic, and the total obliteration of the planet.

With deft gunslinger Vincent Valentine and cantankerous pilot Cid Highwind aboard, the heroic team will journey freely across the entire planet and explore expansive new areas, harness a new job system in combat and forge unbreakable bonds to overcome the greatest threat they’ve ever faced.

When will Final Fantasy VII: Revelation be released?

Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will be available across all platforms sometime in Spring 2027, which also marks the 30th anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise. Stay tuned for more news regarding the upcoming release.

In the meantime, players can catch up on the series before Final Fantasy VII: Revelation by playing the first two entries, Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. Both games are available now across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, XBOX Series X|S and PC, and can be purchased in a bundle pack titled Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade & Rebirth for $59.99 USD.
