Victoria 3, everyone’s favorite history, nation-building, grand strategy sim (and the subject of the best subreddit to subscribe to), is getting the National Awakening Immersion Pack. The Immersion Packs that Victoria 3 has released focus on bringing history even more to life, with each one growing the game’s narrative in scale and realism.

With the Victoria 3 Expansion Pass 2 ($35.97 USD), players get access to this year’s last two expansion passes, Charters of Commerce and Trade Ships Bonus Pack, with more to come for the grand strategy title from Paradox Interactive.

What is the National Awakenign Immersion Pack?

Victoria 3 National Awakening Immersion Pack promotional image

To set the scene: In the National Awakening Immersion Pack, the nationalist fervors that followed the Napoleonic era are stirring East and Central Europe, and the multinational Habsburg Crown in Vienna is feeling the pressure. With a weakened Ottoman Empire presenting new opportunities in the Balkans, the stage is set for a dramatic century.

You can now explore the history of the Habsburg Empire and its neighbors in Victoria 3: National Awakening. This pack focuses on Austrian internal affairs and Balkan struggles. The liberal revolutions of 1848 were the culmination of decades of internal struggle, and the suppression of these revolts complicated Austrian politics until the empire’s 20th-century collapse. In National Awakening, you will steer your way through the crises that remade Europe’s political map.

National Awakening Immersion Pack Features

The focus of National Awakening is to look at countries individually and how they adapted during their periods of nationalistic resurgence. That means that each one is different as it overtook Europe. Below is what you can expect.

  • Austria: You can guide the Empire through social and technological revolutions that threaten to undermine the absolute Habsburg authority. You can transform the Empire into a cosmopolitan state or harness the national aspirations of its many peoples toward reform.
  • Hungary: Once freed from Austrian rule, you can make Hungary a crucial weight in the balance of power in Eastern Europe.
  • Serbia: Take sides in the rivalry between the Serbian royal houses of the Karadjordjevic and Obrenovic dynasties.
  • Bulgaria: Establish freedom from Ottoman rule and develop a reputation as the Prussia of the Balkans.
  • Montenegro: You can lead this tiny theocratic state to secular monarchy and potential expansion.
  • Yugoslavia and Illyria: Form a new southern Slavic state, based on the historical Serbian-led model or an alternate Croatian-Slovene nation.

National Awakening New Content

But the National Awakening Immersion Pack isn’t just adding the nationalistic fervor (which is definitely not relatable to our current time at all), it’s also adding new events to build up to on top of new historical characters, art, and regional building set.

  • The Great Eastern Crisis: The rise of nationalism in Southern Europe dealt an almost fatal blow to Ottoman power in Europe as formerly subject peoples rose up in rebellion.
  • National Awakenings: New narrative events tied to National Fervor better model the historical rise of nationalism in the Balkans.
  • The Balkan Wars: New content encourages a united Balkan front against the exhausted Ottoman Empire in Europe.
