During the annual One Piece Day celebration in Tokyo, Japan, Netflix announced that its live-action pirate adventure series One Piece has received an early renewal for a third season. The One Piece Season 3 news comes alongside a first look at the highly anticipated second season, which is set to premiere in 2026.
Production for One Piece Season 3 is scheduled to begin later this year in Cape Town, South Africa, signaling Netflix’s commitment to adapting the expansive story of the popular manga. Ian Stokes will join Joe Tracz as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer for the new season.
We called One Piece Season 1 “the best TV show of the year” in 2023 when it was released. In our review of the first season of One Piece, our critic said:
“One Piece is magical with clear reverence for the source material shown through the direction, set designs, the casting, the performances, just everything. Netflix rises to that challenge with charisma and a love for Oda’s work. While it was clear the streamer’s last outing with Cowboy Bebop didn’t listen to Shinichiro Watanabe in the writing room, fans will see Oda’s fingerprints throughout One Piece.”
What to expect from One Piece Season 2?
The second season, titled One Piece: Into the Grand Line, will follow Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates as they set sail for the legendary Grand Line. According to the official synopsis, the crew will face “fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet” as they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure. The season will introduce new islands and formidable enemies, continuing the epic adventure that captivated audiences in its first season.
