Prime Video has finally released the first trailer for The House of the Spirits, marking the debut of the first Spanish-language television adaptation of the celebrated novel by Isabel Allende. The eight-episode family saga is scheduled to premiere on April 29, 2026, with the launch of Episodes 1-3, followed by weekly releases through May 13, 2026.

Adapted into a film in 1993, as a culturally removed telling starring Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons, Winona Ryder, Glenn Close, and Antonio Banderas, it’s finally being told from the Latin American perspective on screen in 2026. After the film’s release in 2009, a Latino theater production of The House Spirits was also performed.

The House of the Spirits is a collaboration between major international production houses, led by FilmNation Entertainment, the Academy Award-winning company responsible for titles such as Anora and Conclave. The production is supported by Fabula, the Chilean Academy Award-winning producer behind The Eternal Memory and A Fantastic Woman.

The series’ creative direction is overseen by showrunners Francisca Alegría, Fernanda Urrejola, and Andrés Wood. Serving as executive producers for the project are the original novel’s author, Isabel Allende, alongside Eva Longoria and Courtney Saladino.

The series features an ensemble cast led by Alfonso Herrera, known for his work in Rebel Moon, who portrays Esteban Trueba. The central character of Clara del Valle is brought to life at different stages of her journey by Nicole Wallace, previously seen in Our Fault, and Dolores Fonzi, known for Belén.

What is The House of the Spirits about?

Based on Allende’s internationally acclaimed literary work, the series explores a narrative spanning half a century within a conservative South American country defined by intense class struggle, political upheaval, and elements of magic.

The story centers on three generations of women—Clara, Blanca, and Alba—as they navigate the complex evolution of their family and their nation. The adaptation seeks to capture the sweeping scope of Allende’s original vision, grounding the text’s magical realism in the region’s historical realities.
