New SMITE Goddess Charybdis Out Today as a Hunter

Charybdis

Today, Hi-Rez released Charybdis as SMITE’s new playable Goddess, belonging to the Hunter class. Charybdis may look like a child, yet under her guise lurks an ever-hungry creature replacing her arm – the Maw. It is her main weapon in battle.
In Greek mythology, Zeus once transformed Charybdis into a monster and chained her to the sea bed opposite the similarly cursed Scylla. Both became sisters in spirit – and in gameplay.

Just like Scylla, Charybdis reveals her true nature through her ultimate, unleashing a single devastating strike with the Maw. If it kills a God, it only hungers for more, and the ability can be reused.

From her lord father, Poseidon, Charybdis inherited the ability to control the ebb and flow of the seas. Her attacks make the tides rise, which in turn empowers her abilities.

Charybdis’s unquenchable thirst creates enormous whirlpools. She can immerse and disappear inside, bringing out her craving Maw to swallow enemies whole.

Find extensive details about the design of Charybdis and visuals in this Closer Look blog post from SMITE Lead Designer AJ ‘Ajax’ Walker.

Also,  a new SMITE Odyssey event begins Perilous Seas! Players set off on an epic voyage around the world and through the lands of ancient mythology. They will face the dual danger of Charybdis and Scylla reunited as they try to sail across the new Strait of Messina territory.

Up until early 2022, players will be unlocking dozens of skins as they are gradually released through the Odyssey: Perilous Seas. Purchasing skins earn points, which unlock more skins for free as collection bonuses plus dozens of quests with various rewards.

Eight skins are already available, including the Unlimited Edition ‘Tier 5’ quality skin, the jewel in the crown: Toon Mania Cthulhu.

Cartoons have gone loony! Much more than a skin, Toon Mania Cthulhu is a fond tribute to cartoons from the old days.

From the art style and animations to the sound effects and voice pack – every aspect differs from the default God. Using any ability transforms Toon Mania Cthulhu’s entire character model, rotating between a goofy king to a cowboy, a plane pilot, and a rock star. With his ultimate, he expands to become the biggest character in the game and turns into a very angry, very giant skeleton.

As the ultimate collection reward of the Odyssey: Perilous Seas, Toon Mania Cthulhu is already available for anyone using the ‘Buy All’ feature.
