Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Volume 9, which is published by VIZ Media, is written by Ukyō Kodachi and illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto and translated into English by Mari Morimoto, with touch-up art and lettering by Snir Aharon. Volume 9 picks up with a fierce battle between Naruto and Delta. Proving to be a dangerous opponent, Boruto is forced to watch from the sidelines and watch his dad fight. But when Delta starts using despicable tactics in the fight, Boruto and his friends are forced to help Naruto. Fans of the series know just how strong Naruto is, but will his strength be enough to defeat Delta and protect the others? Elsewhere, Sasuke continues his investigation of Kara and discovers the organization’s biggest secret. Also in Volume 9, Kawaki asks Naruto to train him to be a ninja after witnessing his true strength.
Even though this manga series focuses on the adventures of Boruto, I’m always happy to see Naruto fighting against new enemies. It’s even more exciting when his opponents seem stronger than him when the fight starts, which usually lets me know that the fight will be great. However, what makes fights like these truly special is that I, as a long time fan, know how far Naruto has come since the first chapter of his series. To see him take on an opponent like Delta shows how far he’s come. Not only that, but his determination to make sure that Boruto and his friends aren’t seriously harmed during the battle is incredible. Naruto has come far since his days in the Ninja Academy and I for one am glad to see his continuous character development.
I wasn’t quite sure how much lore expansion would be included in the series, but Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Volume 9 added more a lot more to the Naruto universe. Most of this new information comes from Sasuke’s investigation of Kara. I had my own theories of what Kara’s true intentions were, but I was completely blown away with the revelation. Without going too deep into spoilers, their intentions will surely change the way that the ninja world will feel about the Tailed Beasts once again. Naruto managed to rectify how the world felt about them after the Fourth Great Ninja War, but Kara’s plans will surely renew some negative feelings. I’m eager to see how things turn out and to find out how far the organization is willing to go to achieve their goal.
If you’ve been reading the manga series up to this point, then you’re aware that Boruto and Kawaki will eventually fight against each other. Their fight seems to go beyond being rivals, especially after looking at the opening pages of the first volume. It appears that their inevitable fight is gaining momentum as Kawaki asks Naruto to train him. With Boruto training under Sasuke, it only makes sense that Kawaki trains under Naruto. Although none of them are aware of what Kawaki’s training will lead to, it sets up an important relationship between him and Naruto. I’m eager to see how their bond moves forward and if Boruto begins to resent his dad again for not paying enough attention to him.
The artwork and dialogue throughout Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Volume 9 is what truly made this volume the most memorable on in the series. All throughout Naruto and Delta’s fight, I was instantly reminded how the dialogue could fully capture my attention. It’s very reminiscent of dialogue that would happen during the original series. The artwork fully captured the danger and ferocity of their fight. With each panel, I could tell just how much both Delta and Naruto were willing to do in order to win. There were also some new jutsu shown, which was fantastic to see.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Volume 9. As I mentioned in my review of Volume 8, I was skeptical about starting the series. However, I’m fully invested in what’s happening, especially after the fight between Naruto and Delta. The artwork and storytelling throughout their fierce battle went above and beyond in displaying emotion and just how dangerous the situation was. Kawaki’s training marks the start of his inevitable fight with Boruto, which is something I’m excited to see how it progresses. The major revelation sets up a darker turn for the series that will surely have people talking. I haven’t been this excited about a manga series for quite some time.
