REVIEW: ‘Searching’

In a world filled with reboots, remakes, and sequels Searching was an unpredictable roller coaster coupled with a unique cinematographic style. When his 16-year-old daughter goes missing, a David Kim, played by John Cho, takes it upon himself to find her. Desperate, he breaks into her laptop to look for clues to find her, contacting friends, searching pictures, doing everything he can.

We have never been so satisfied to have our predictions of an ending turned on their head. John Cho delivers a performance that we will be back in August to see again because he kills it. Aneesh Chaganty and Sev Ohanian Oscar nominations for delivering a movie that sets the bar for doing a movie through the eyes of screens we use every day. The story unfolds in the kind of immersion we can all relate to and makes us genuinely care.

Every time my wife and I thought we knew what was coming, we were fooled. This movie showed that we are not as good of detectives as we thought we were going into this film. Movies like Cloverfield and their like try to capture the “through the lens” way of storying tell but Searching does it in a way that is believable and relatable. There is so much growth throughout the movie with simple clips, Facetime, and screen caps.

If you like suspense movies, innovation, and John Cho you do not want to miss the movie coming to a theater near you August 24th. We know we will back opening night.
