Aksun Wants To Open Up a World of Korean Shamanic Folklore

The hack-and-slash roguelite Aksun is steeped in Korean shamanic folklore. And now is your chance to play as it launches its first public playtest on August 15, 2025. The playtest gives players a chance to experience the game’s chaotic elemental synergies, ritual-based combat, and deep buildcraft.

The game is developed by Wayway Inc., a Korea-based studio of six dedicated developers. Aksun began as a solo experiment that evolved into a collaborative vision after an internal competition of four individual projects. Wayway’s core members have worked together for over seven years, building a strong creative rhythm now enhanced by new talent.

Aksun is published by Human Qube Games, a newly established publishing agency for indie gems. The team has worked on titles like Megaloot, My Little Life, Heretic’s Fork, Bus: Bro U Survived, and more. Human Qube also hosts events such as the Bullet Heaven Festival, No Time To Loot, and Metroidvania Fusion on Steam.

What is Aksun?

In Aksun, you are trapped inside the Casket, a cursed device created to imprison a fallen cult. Each run sends you deeper into a cycle of death, memory, and rebirth, where you unlock corrupted artifacts, divine weapons, and stat-shaping Echoes.

Players will navigate a branching node map in each chapter, where they make meaningful choices like upgrading weapons, revealing artifacts, and triggering elemental chain reactions, all set in a world filled with the lore of Korea’s Six Realms of Rebirth.

The game’s build system has three interconnected components. Weapons, which are bound to Hell Gods, define your combat style and unlock powerful Awakening Skills. Artifacts, which are remnants of cult rituals, grant elemental powers and deployable effects. Finally, there are echoes, which amplify and mutate your build with stat-based synergies.

What to expect from the August 15 Aksun Playtest:

The upcoming playtest build gives players a chance to check out:

  • Two fully playable chapters, complete with boss fights
  • Five elemental systems (Fire, Ice, Wind, Earth, Lightning) with chain-reaction synergies
  • Eight artifacts and two unique weapon types
  • Awakening and Echo systems for in-depth buildcraft
  • Distorted realms with lore rooted in Korean spiritual beliefs
