Crunchyroll took center stage at Anime NYC 2025 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Over Friday and Saturday, the global anime streamer announced updates for To Your Eternity Season 3, a new documentary, and a showcase that announced all new series and release dates for returning series.

The announcements at Anime NYC included release months for Fire Force Season 3 Part 2, the release of the outro and intro songs for Let’s Play, and release windows for a bunch of new isekai. Still, it was Friday’s To Your Eternity Season 3 panel that made me excited for what the streamer will be doing. And that’s because it included news for a behind-the-scenes documentary.

The Roots of To Your Eternity

The To Your Eternity Season 3 panel hosted the lead Japanese voice actors Reiji Kawashima and Kenjiro Tsuda. The panel also announced an all-new documentary movie, entitled The Roots of To Your Eternity. The documentary, produced by Crunchyroll, takes a deep dive into the fascinating creative journey of the beloved To Your Eternity series through exclusive statements from its manga and anime creators.

This includes Oima Yoshitoki, Kiyoko Sayama, and more. With narration by Kenjiro Tsuda, the documentary will feature footage to illustrate the past arc to prepare for the new adventure in the contemporary arc and beyond.

When we look at animation, it’s easy to overlook the numerous factors that go into creating it. By creating documentaries that take you behind-the-scenes and into the process, audiences get the chance to see the layers of creativity and dedication that go into creating an animated series, anime, or otherwise. Your Eternity.

The Roots of To Your Eternity will be available on Crunchyroll on Friday, August 29, 2025.

In addition to the documentary reveal, it was also shared that the group Perfume will perform the opening theme song for To Your Eternity Season 3, which will premiere this October on Crunchyroll. One notable change is that To Your Eternity has once again changed production hands this season with a new director (Sōta Yokote) joining Kiyoko Sayama, and a new animation studio (Studio Massket) joining Drive in production.

Production Details

Animation Studio: Brain’s Base (S1), Drive (S2-3), Studio Massket (S3)
Based on the Manga by: Yoshitoki Ōima (published in English by Kodansha USA)
Director(s): Masahiko Murata (S1) Kiyoko Sayama (S2-3), and Sōta Yokote (S3)
Writer (for television): Shinzō Fujita
Awards: 2024 Anime Awards Nominee, 2022 Anime Awards Winner

If you’re not familiar with the series, our critic had this to say about Season 2 of the series: “To Your Eternity Season 1 delivered an emotional story filled with a memorable cast that comes to a conclusion that, while its primary protagonist survives, feels like a fairly hard ending.:

“Crafting a follow-up adventure means that it will largely be separated from the original in many ways. With the lack of throughlines for both characters and plots, To Your Eternity Season 2 feels far more distant from its original season than I expected. Whether or not this separation is good or bad remains for the viewer to decide.”

This highlights the importance that fans are putting on Season 2, as that same critic listed To Your Eternity villains on our top villains of anime list.

What is To Your Eternity about?

In the beginning, an “orb” is cast upon Earth. “It” can do two things: change into the form of the thing that stimulates “it”; and come back to life after death. “It” morphs from orb to rock, then to wolf, and finally to boy, but roams about like a newborn who knows nothing. As a boy, “it” becomes Fushi.

Through encounters with human kindness, Fushi not only gains survival skills but also grows as a “person”. But his journey is darkened by the inexplicable and destructive enemy Nokker, as well as cruel partings with the people he loves.

What is To You Eternity Season 3’s release date?

We do not currently have a release date for the newest season of To Your Eternity. However, during their Anime NYC panel about the third season, Crunchyroll shared that To Your Eternity Season 3 premieres sometime in October 2026 on Crunchyroll.
