Black Clover is back, and Crunchyroll has revealed the first footage from Anime Expo. During its annual Industry Panel at Anime Expo 2025 on Saturday, July 5, in the Los Angeles Convention Center, Crunchyroll announced Black Clover will be officially returning for an all-new season only on Crunchyroll. Studio Pierrot (Naruto, Bleach, Tokyo Ghoul) will be back to produce the series.

Along with this exciting news, where fans in the panel were the first in the world to learn, a message from the original creator, Yuki Tabata, was also delivered in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the manga that the anime is adapted from:

“The production of the long-awaited new anime season of Black Clover has been confirmed! I’m beyond ecstatic going into the new anime season after the super-passionate movie that came out! Thanks to all of you, Black Clover is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! I definitely plan to keep this hype going! I want fans from Japan and all around the world to enjoy the powered-up anime that’s going to be brought to you by the most awesome anime production staff! Thank you so much for supporting Black Clover!”

Fans eagerly awaiting more episodes since the series last aired in 2021 were treated to a teaser trailer and key visual, giving a peek into what’s next for the series.

What is Black Clover?

In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any. At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires, magic books that amplify their holder’s magic. Asta’s is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent’s spells. Being opposite but good rivals, Yuno and Asta are ready for the hardest of challenges to achieve their common dream: to be the Wizard King. Giving up is never an option!

To achieve their goals, they join different Magic Knight factions. Asta joins the Black Bulls, while Yuno joins the Golden Dawn, further reflecting their opposing dynamics. Throughout their adventures, they are forced to confront evil forces determined to take over the world. Each new enemy opens up the door to new knowledge and insight for both Asta and Yuno, not just about the world but also about themselves.

Where to binge-watch the series to get caught up?

There’s a lot to watch before the next season comes out. More specifically, four seasons and an animated film have been released since the last season aired. You can catch all episodes of Black Clover on Crunchyroll and Netflix. Note that the animated film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, which is exclusively available on Netflix, is not considered canon, so simply watching it may not be enough to bring you up to speed.

According to our critic, “It is worth noting that the film is not considered canon, as its story and new characters do not impact the ongoing manga series. Thus, fans and newcomers alike can appreciate this self-contained story without worrying about its implications on the larger Black Clover narrative.”

However, if you’re new to the series, the film can be a good enough way to get you acclimated to the world before taking the plunge: “Newcomers to the Black Clover franchise can dive into the film without worrying about fully catching up with the manga or anime series. While knowing the series does offer a slightly different perspective on certain aspects of the film, it is not a prerequisite for enjoyment. The movie seamlessly follows the established lore of the series and takes place toward the end of the anime, providing a familiar setting for fans.”

Keep your eyes peeled for more information to come surrounding the latest season of Black Clover. What Crunchyroll has released out of Anime Expo is just a taste of what’s to come.
