Song Kang-ho (송강호) is one of today’s most formidable actors. Actor Song is best known in the US for his performance in the Oscar-winning film Parasite. Still, he’s just as notable in his frequent collaborative work with director Bong Joon-ho. Song has starred in Memories of a Murder, Snowpiercer, and The Host. Beyond his work with Joon-ho, there are films Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Thirst, and many, many more. His performances touch on the intricacies of the human condition. Song Kang-ho’s latest venture sees him turning to television with Uncle Samsik — his first TV role of his career. The 16-episode period drama set in 1960s Korea will premiere in 2024 on Disney+ (Hulu in the United States.)

Kang-ho stars alongside Byun Yo-han, best known for his work in television dramas such as Six Flying Dragons and Mr. Sunshine. Uncle Samsik is written and directed by Shin Yeonshick (Cobweb, Cassiopeia).

Set during a period of upheaval and unrest in Korea, one man will operate in the shadows, manipulating the system and its key players for the advancement of the country in Uncle Samsik – an upcoming fictional drama set to debut in 2024, exclusively on Disney+ (on Hulu in the United States).

Read the Official Uncle Samsik Synopsis:

Uncle Samsik takes place in 1960s Korea. The series follows Kim San, an ambitious idealist who decides to turn his country’s fortunes around. A recipient of an Albright Scholarship, San wants nothing more than to transform his country into an industrial nation. More specifically, he wants to deliver an American-level of affluence to the people of Korea.

Determined to become a success, San attracts the attentions of Pak Doochill (Uncle Samsik) a shady fixer who adapts to any situation and takes whatever steps necessary to help him accomplish his boss’s goals. Together, the pair will form an uneasy alliance, navigating the complexities of the established system, united by their shared goal of a prosperous future.

Cast:

  • Song Kang-ho (Parasite, Snowpiercer) stars as Pak Doochill/Uncle Samsik, a fixer and social chameleon who adapts to any situation to advance his boss’s cause.
  • Byun Yo-han (Mr. Sunshine, Six Flying Dragons) as Kim San, a driven idealist looking to bring American affluence to the people of Korea.

Uncle Samsik Release Date

Uncle Samsik will be available internationally on Disney+ starting May 15, 2024.
