How do you reclaim your life when an entire nation, and your own family, completely forgets who you are? That’s what Gen Takasegawa has to figure out in Netflix’s upcoming Japanese drama series, Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?

Set to premiere on October 22, 2026, Did Someone Happen to Mention Me? is written Kankuro Kudo, directed by Fuminori Kaneko, Takuya Sakaue & Atsushi Watabe, and stars Koji Yakusho with Kento Kaku, Kenichi Matsuyama, Noriko Eguchi, and more. The series expands Netflix’s catalog of Japanese television series that has exploded since 2024. While Netflix Anime has been a staple of the platform for some time, the streamer has also been expanding its live-action Japanese productions.

The series also features “It’s Okay,” performed in-story by Cho & Chijimi, with lyrics by Kankuro Kudo and music by Ken Yokoyama.

Before the series airs later this month, here is what you need to know.

What is Did Someone Happen to Mention Me? about?

Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?

Did Someone Happen to Mention Me? follows Gen Takasegawa (Kōji Yakusho), a once-legendary actor hailed as being “known by every Japanese person.” But when he returns to Japan, he faces the shocking reality that 99% of the country and his own family have completely forgotten him.

With his best skill, notoriety, disappearing overnight, Takasegawa struggles in ways he didn’t know he ever would. Living out of a public park and reduced to basically being homeless, he is convinced everyone suffers from mass amnesia. But when he tries to tell the authorities, they do nothing, writing him off as a senile old man.

Stripped of his pride, Takasegawa is forced to start his life again from zero. But he sticks to acting and muscles his way into auditions and film sets to reclaim his former glory, one background role at a time…hopefully.
