During the Sony State of Play, Amazon Game Studios, Crystal Dynamics, and Flying Wild Hog announced that pre-orders are officially open for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. After its announcement at The Game Awards in 2025, this is one title that has been top of mind. A return to the original Lara Croft’s design, this title is a reimagining of the original 1996 Tomb Raider game.

Today’s announcement also confirmed that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 on launch day, as the console starts to get more releases at launch instead of after.

Now set to launch on February 12, 2027, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2, the new trailer confirmed the game’s delay. Sony’s State of Play also showed audiences a new trailer that highlighted new areas of the game. Additionally, we also got a breakdown of what each edition contains for players.

What is Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis?

The official synopsis from Amazon Game Studios, Crystal Dynamics, and Flying Wild Hog is:

In Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, players will step into the boots of Lara Croft as she embarks on a treacherous globe-trotting quest to discover the lost secrets of Atlantis, with jaw-dropping visuals, modernized gameplay, and new surprises that honor the spirit of the original game.

Immersive environments, familiar puzzles redefined with new mechanics, and unforgettable moments – like the legendary battle against the T-Rex – are transformed as epic gameplay encounters on a cinematic scale. This is the legendary adventure fans remember, reimagined in ways that weren’t possible before, and with new surprises.

So far, the game has defined itself by a few gameplay features. The first is expanding and adapting the original story with deeper connections to what we see in the reboot series that Crystal Dynamics released in 2013.

Part of that expansion is also about showcasing things from the past, like the T. rex, but also even more expansive tombs with larger puzzles that take Lara from the jungles of Peru to the crumbling ruins of Greece, the deserts of Egypt, and a mysterious island shrouded in myth. All of which get a quick nod in the new trailer.

With a focus on environmental puzzles, players will unseal secrets locked away for centuries, bringing the franchise back to the puzzles that defined it in the past, before it switched to the traditional action-adventure game.  Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis also focuses on bringing back some of Lara’s signature moves, like her swan dive, flips, and more ways to use her strength, agility, and grappling hook.

And finally, instead of taking on hordes of enemies, Lara is back to facing her environment with Lara’s signature dual pistols, using acrobatic abilities to take down hostile wildlife and mythological creatures (but there are at least some mercenaries in there for good measure).
