Joure Visser, one of the developers behind 2023’s viral hit Don’t Scream, has announced that his latest project, DEADCAM, is now available in Early Access on Steam. This 90s-inspired survival horror game pulls players into a series of haunting encounters through eerie found footage recordings.

DEADCAM infuses a gritty 90s analog aesthetic into a variety of horror experiences. Players will navigate through various found footage recordings, engaging with a diverse collection of stories ranging from survival horror to psychological thrillers.

Each self-contained encounter, or “file,” features a unique setting and narrative. With them, players will uncover the mystery of these haunts by completing each file before moving to the next. Early Access introduces players to the first encounter: an atmospheric J-Horror challenge set in an abandoned school, with four additional encounters that will arrive throughout the Early Access period.

DEADCAM’s found footage recordings immerse players in distinct stories, each with its own setting, narrative, and gameplay mechanics tailored to the tone. It also boasts retro UI elements to monitor haunted activity, including the size and speed of nearby enemy mobs.

Players will face off against idle opponents who may walk or sprint towards your location, forcing you to confront a handful or even a horde of enemies. And of course, they’ll be asked to wield a variety of weapons, from firearms like pistols and shotguns to brutal tools like flamethrowers and chainsaws.

Handheld weapons require aiming, which reduces movement speed, while quicker melee weapons like the katana risk close-quarters vulnerability. But it’s not horror survival without health! Monitor your vitality and manage a limited number of medkits to survive each encounter.

What can we expect from DEADCAM’s Early Access?

The first file, set in an abandoned Japanese high school, offers roughly an hour of gameplay. In this encounter, players can find and use three weapons: a katana, a pistol, and a shotgun. The file features three possible endings, but only one unlocks the full 100% playback percentage—the “good” ending. Players who strategically navigate their surroundings will discover a crucial element that unlocks the path to this desired conclusion. Details on the remaining four files will be available soon.

Early Access Features of Joure Visser’s DEADCAM

  • Nostalgic 90s analog and chilling found footage combine for an atmospheric survival horror experience.
  • Experience the first of five chilling encounters in Early Access now.
  • A simple top-down map system helps players orient themselves in this haunted world.
  • Enjoy exciting, brain-teasing puzzles combined with thrilling combat.
  • Find three weapons hidden in the first file: a katana, a shotgun, and a pistol.
  • One-hour files offer chilling experiences at breakneck speed.
  • Manage resources, such as medkits, to replenish your vitality during tough encounters.
  • Experience one of three possible endings, or fight to find them all.

DEADCAM is out now on PC via Steam in Early Access.
