We’re getting so much delicious anime coming to Netflix at the start of January. Part 1 of the new anime series Sakamoto Days will premiere on Netflix on January 11, 2025, with one episode released each week. Season 1 Part 2 will debut in July 2025.

This anime series, adapted from the hit manga created by Yuto Suzuki, follows Taro Sakamoto, who used to be an unrivaled hitman, earning legendary status in the underworld. But one day, the unthinkable happened. Sakamoto fell in love. He started dating, retired, got married, and had a kid, growing overweight as a result.

Though now working as a humble convenience store owner, the world of hitmen still follows him. Sakamoto, along with Shin, a young man with telepathy and an employee at his small store, will protect his humble life and family, or die trying.

“I want to express my gratitude to the fans, whose support made all of this possible,” Suzuki said. “I hope you will continue to join me in building up Sakamoto Days! Please enjoy the show!”

Director Masaki Watanabe aims to capture the manga’s intensity. “When I first had the chance to read Sakamoto Days, I remember how electrifying the powerful action scenes were,” he says.

“Keeping that feeling at the heart of the production, I want to take all the components unique to the screen — movement, color, and sound — to make Sakamoto Days a dynamic and fast-paced anime while keeping in mind the humor sprinkled throughout the original. We intend to faithfully portray the character of Sakamoto, the family man and the killer who doesn’t kill. Our staff are putting their all into this, so stay tuned!”

What is Sakamato Days About?

When Sakamoto meets Aoi, the convenience store clerk, it’s love at first sight — and just like that, he retires.

Sakamoto gets married, has a daughter, opens a mom-and-pop store in a quiet town, and completely transforms … into a plus-size man. To ensure a peaceful life with his beloved family, the legendary ex–hit man bands together with comrades to face off against the looming threat of assassins.

Sakamoto and company run wild in no-holds-barred, over-the-top battles that have stolen the spotlight and captivated audiences far and wide. In a world overrun by assassins, like the special force “The Order” from the Japanese Association of Assassins and a mysterious individual called “X (Slur),” Sakamoto questions the true meaning of strength.

Get ready for nonstop assassin action as chaos ensues in Sakamoto and his comrades’ ordinary (and extraordinary) lives.

Set your calendars for January 11, 2025, for the first part of Sakamoto Days arriving on Netflix.
