Marvel Rivals is off to a massive start, hitting over 20 million players in just a few short weeks. The hero shooter genre isn’t dead; it was just waiting for something fun that delivered the same Overwatch feel without being Overwatch. Sporting 33 unique characters already, and with more on the way, here are some heroes and villains on our Marvel Rivals wish list that NetEase should add next.
Thanos
First up on our Marvel Rivals wish list is the Infinity Gauntlet-wearing Death Simp, who needs to join the roster. Thanos would make a fantastic Vanguard, as the big beefy boy is a significant physical threat. Giving him the powers of the Infinity Gauntlet would also be super cool, especially if you can use different gems to augment his core abilities.
His ultimate could be similar to Scarlet Witch’s explosion, where 50% of the opponents caught in it would get dusted immediately. Or, you know, let him fly around on his Thanoscopter a bit and shoot enemies out of the sky. Marvel Rivals needs some more villain representation. Who is better than the mad titan himself?
Kitty Pryde
Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat, could be an interesting addition to the roster; with her defining power to phase through walls, using her as a strategist could be incredible. Which is why she’s on our Marvel Rivals wish list. Being able to phase through walls or enemy attacks would make her a fantastic backline attacker, especially if you can sneak around without physical objects as an obstacle.
Phasing through enemies could stun them briefly, leaving them open to attack. Incorporating her trusty dragon partner, Lockheed would also give her a fire breath attack, summoning him for a quick hit. Her ultimate could give her phase her entire time for a handful of seconds, opening up a massive chance for a significant push when needed most.
Green Goblin
Speaking of villains, Green Goblin is next up on our Marvel Rivals wish list. Giving him access to his glider can be a terrific way to add another flying character, with his pumpkin bombs being a deadly long-range weapon. Gobby can be a good physical threat on the ground, using noxious gas to incapacitate and obscure the battlefield. A charge with the glider would also make for a great attack, especially if it can send enemies to the ground for a follow-up. A cluster bomb like Ultimate would be incredible, reigning down explosions on a group of enemies. Who doesn’t want to get the inevitable Dafoe-inspired outfit and laugh maniacally through a match?
Gambit
Gambit is having a massive year in 2024, with standout scenes in X-Men 97 and a new live-screen appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, so naturally, he lands a spot on our Marvel Rivals wish list. Bringing him to Marvel Rivals is a fantastic way to keep the streak alive, with his combat kit offering a wealth of abilities to choose from.
Throwable playing cards are a must, especially if you can use them like sticky grenades to detonate at will. Gambit wouldn’t be complete without a staff, dealing significant AOE damage and knocking enemies back. His ultimate could work similarly to Iron Man’s or Magneto’s, a more significant charged attack that could cause a considerable knockback. Gambit could really make a name for himself by joining the Marvel Rivals cast.
Nico Minoru
Nico Minoru is a disorienting addition to our Marvel Rivals wish list. Her dark magic would be a unique mechanic if NetEase stayed true to the Staff of One’s canon. Giving her a randomly rotating cast of spells that disappear after one use would make her a potential powerhouse with a mix of DPS, healing, and disruption spells, all on random cooldowns after one use.
One second, she could be damaging enemies with blood magic, then healing a teammate for quick health before blinding or disrupting a nearby enemy. Her ultimate could unlock everything at once as she flies into a canonical rage, being able to cast in rapid succession without cooldowns. She’d be a completely chaotic addition that would be unique in the cast of characters, and I’m here for it.
With Marvel’s well-being as deep and storied as it is, NetEase has a massive cast of characters. They’re already proving to add a mix of the big hitters and lesser-known characters, bringing in a diverse and expansive roster. If they can keep up a good cadence and variety of characters, Marvel Rivals will be around for a long while. Which characters are on your Marvel Rivals wish list?
Marvel Rivals is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
