The Xbox Games Showcase 2023 was roughly two hours of wall-to-wall reveals, announcements, and looks at future games coming to the Xbox Series consoles. From updates for previously announced games to world premieres, there was a huge number of games, spanning many genres and scales of experiences. Read on to learn more about all the games they were showing off.
Fable
The showcase opened with a glimpse at the long-awaited return of one of Xboxc’s oldest IPs. While we didn’t get any gameplay or features for the upcoming game, the trailer we saw establishes that the comical tone the franchise has always been known for will definitely be returning. The trailer gives a quirky look at heroes and what they do, culminating in a confrontation between a hero and a giant in a Jack and the Beanstalk-style scenario. No release window was given, though it will be arriving on day one on Game Pass.
South of Midnight
In this third-person action-adventure game from first-party developer Compulsion Games, players take the role of Hazel, a magical mender of broken bonds and spirits known as a Weaver, as she confronts and subdues dangerous monsters inspired by southern folklore. While no gameplay was shown, the game sports a unique visual style that lends the animation and almost stop-motion quality that complements the unique character designs wonderfully. No launch date was given but will be coming on day one to Game Pass.
Star Wars: Outlaws
The first third-party offering of the Xbox Games Showcase 2023, Ubisoft’s Massive Games’ foray into the galaxy far far away, takes the form of the first-ever open-world Star Wars game. Set during the Rebellion Era, players control Kay Vess, a scoundrel who is searching for freedom with her companion Nix. Fight against crime syndicates as you become the galaxy’s most wanted in this sci-fi adventure.
33 Immortals
In this coop action-roguelike from developer Thunder Lotus, players take the role of a damned soul rebelling against god’s final judgment. Dive headlong into 33 player “pick up and raid” matchmaking as you and your allies struggle to survive hordes of enemies and massive boss battles. Expand your arsenal and equip powerful relics to permanently upgrade your character. The game launches next year, day one on Game Pass.
Payday 3
The bank-robbing FPS looks to make a return this fall when the game launches on September 21st. The great looking visuals and lots of action, it looks like the latest entry in the series aims to give fans more of what they love about this franchise.
Persona 3 Reload
Xbox continues to work closely with Atlus as they bring more and more of the developer’s vaunted Persona series to its platform. Officially announcing the remake for its classic Persona 3 game at Xbox Games Showcase 2023, this new package brings a revamped battle system, cutting-edge graphics, enhanced audio with an all-new English voice-over, and new soundtrack arrangments. The game will be coming to Game Pass on day one when it launches early in 2024.
Avowed
The newest RPG from legendary developer Obsidian, Avowed set in the world of Eora, sees players embark on a journey to the Living Lands, a plague-ridden island filled with danger, mysteries, choices, and consequences. This first-person view fantasy RPG will see players exploring diverse ecosystems as they struggle to save this cursed land when the game releases in 2024, available on day one on Game Pass.
Sea of Thieves: Legend of Monkey Island Crossover
In a new collaboration between Rare and Lucasfilm Games, two beloved pirate universes collide to bring a new tale of legendary pirate Guybrush Theepwood. Comprised of three tall tales, delivered as installments through free updates to owners of Sea of Thieves or Game Pass subscribers beginning on July 20th, the crossover looks to deliver a heartfelt and humorous love letter to a classic adventure franchise.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Looking to leverage the latest advances in computing power and cloud technology, the next entry in Microsoft’s legendary simulation franchise looks to soar even higher than before when it launches in 2024, with day one availability on Game Pass.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
Everything has led Senua to this moment as developer Ninja Theory previewed its next chapter in the hauntingly beautiful Hellblade franchise. Featuring gorgeous sights and sounds, it looks like players will be getting much more of what they loved the first time when the game launches in 2024, and day one on Game Pass.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Delivering a humorous trailer that showcases the off-beat energy that the franchise is known for, the newest entry in the franchise looks to set two legendary yakuza, Kasuga Ichiban and Kazuma Kiryu on a larger-than-life RPG adventure after an unexpected chain of events.
Fallout 76: Road to Atlantic City
Celebrating 15 million players who have emerged from Vault 76, Bethesda Games announced a new expedition for its live-service Fallout game, that will see players travel outside of the game’s home of Appalachia to the high-stakes streets of Atlantic City.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
In the tradition of unique titles from developer/publisher Capcom, this game takes players on an original journey that blends action and strategy with traditional Japanese aesthetics as players guide the Spirit Stone Maiden on her path.
Forza Motorsport
Developer Turn 10 next took the stage in the Xbox Games Showcase 2023 to unveil Forza Motorsport’s October 10th release date, as well as spotlight the stunning details it is delivering with its latest entry in the series.
Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom
Developer Zenimax Online Studios gave players their first look at its latest upcoming adventures to their MMO that will see players returning to Morrowind and Apocrypha as well as a glimpse at the mind-bending mysteries they will look to solve.
Overwatch 2: Invasion
On August 10th, players will get to experience new story missions, a new support hero, and several new game modes for the long-running FPS shooter. It was also announced that Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will gain access to a New Hero Starter Pack, that will unlock all six new heroes, legendary skins, and in-game cosmetics.
Persona 5 Tactica
Next up in the Xbox Games Showcase 2023, got a look at the latest spin-off for Persona 5. When the Phantom Thieves wander into a strange new world, they are soon caught up in a new conflict. With mysterious new allies and dangerous new enemies, the Phantom Thieves look to have their hands full in this tactical RPG. Launching November 11th, the game will be coming on day one to Game Pass.
Jusant
From developer Don’t Nod, this new action-puzzle game is centered on climbing. A narrative game with no spoken dialogue, this game tasks players with scaling an incredibly tall tower filled with numerous biomes and challenges. This new journey will be arriving this fall and will be coming on day one to Game Pass.
Still Wakes the Deep
In this new narrative horror title, an oil rig fights for his life in a visceral storm and dark, claustrophobic surroundings on the Norwegian Sea. With all communications cut off, and all escape closed to him, his only chance to survive is to face the horror when the game arrives in early 2024, with a day-one release on Game Pass.
Dungeons of Hinterburg
Players are armed with a sword and a tourist guide as they uncover the hidden magic and dungeons within the beautiful alpine village of Hinterburg. With loads of puzzles to solve, magic to master and monsters to slay, the game looks to entertain players with its cell-shaded art style when the game arrives in 2024, with a day-one release on Game Pass.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
The new trailer for CD Projekt Red’s expansion for its sci-fi RPG showed off a new district, Dogtown, as well as gave players a first look at the intriguing spy tale the new content hopes to deliver. Featuring returning actor Keanu Reeves, as well as introducing Idris Alba’s character to players, there looks like there will be plenty of action, story, and hard choices to make when the expansion launches on September 26th.
Cities: Skylines II
The Xbox Games Showcase 2023 brought players their first look at gameplay for the upcoming city-building simulator. With gorgeous visuals and tons of systems to manage, it looks like would-be city builders will have plenty to do when the game launches on October 24th, with a day-one arrival on Game Pass.
Metaphor: ReFantazio
From the creative minds of the Persona series, comes an all-new fantasy RPG. Explore a world fraught with unsettling mysteries as the kingdom stands on a precipice. Overcome obstacles and build social bonds with your friends when the game launches in 2024.
Towerborne
From developer Stoic, makers of the award-winning Banner Saga, Towerborne looks to pack fun combat, customization, and lore into its gameplay. Set in the ruins of the City of Numbers, players take the role of an Ace, a hero who is destined to bring hope to humanity. Supporting up to four-player coop, players can band together or journey solo when the game launches in 2024 with a day-one launch on Game Pass.
Clockwork Revolution
InXile’s latest project was revealed for the first time at Xbox Games Showcase 2023. This first-person view RPG blends steampunk aesthetics with a time-bending storyline. When the player discovers an invention that allows them to travel through time, they discover they can alter the course of history for their home, the steam-powered metropolis of Avalon. How the player’s choices will alter their world promises to be a unique narrative experience. No release date was given, but the game will come on day one to Game Pass.
New Xbox Series S model
Starting September 1st, Xbox will be offering a new, black model of its Series S console. Sporting an increased, one-terabyte hard drive, the new model will allow players to hold even more of their favorite gaming experiences. With a 349.99 price tag, the increased hard drive space comes at a reasonable increase in price.
Starfield
Bethesda Game Studio’s latest massive open world(s) RPG took center stage for a full 45 minutes as Game Director Todd Howard hosted an in-depth look at the systems, characters, and worlds gamers will get to explore in the new game. With everything from combat to leveling systems explored, interested gamers got many of their lingering questions answered as they got to take in some gorgeous gameplay. There looks to be plenty to be excited about when the game launches on September 6th.
And there it is. Everything that was talked about at the Xbox Games Showcase 2023. With so many promising games showcased, it feels like Xbox is trying to bring something for everyone to its consoles, as well as its Game Pass subscription service.
