BlizzCon 2026 Day 2 kicked off with the World of Warcraft Forever deep dive panel. This panel dived into all the nitty-gritty details of what to expect for new features and class changes coming into Blizzard’s new third pillar for the MMO. Here are all the biggest reveals and updates coming to Forever later this year.
Serendipitous Interactions is Key to The Gameplay
Exploring the world and meeting strangers while defeating all kinds of challenges throughout Azeroth was critical to the success of Classic‘s release. Campfires have been replaced with Camping. Strangers can walk up to a campsite and, based on their professions, can customize the campsites to give buffs to strangers and new friends. The Campsite buff skill is now a part of profession development, with the first being available at skill level 20, so, at some point during a starting area if you start a profession when you create a new character.
Professions have gotten massively overhauled as well, with hundreds of new recipes and changes to older ones. Trade skills are ultimately going to be a key part of character development once again.
Transmogrification Will be Present but OPTIONAL

Transmogging came later in World of Warcraft‘s lifespan. This is player customization that lets you make any piece of gear look like another piece, for style or silliness to your heart’s content. This is coming at launch to Forever. But if you want a pure experience, you can disable seeing your own AND OTHER PLAYERS’ transmogs.
This is offered at boot-up for Forever for the first time and can be toggled at any time. Another massive change is that transmog hunting will be much easier. Armor and weapon appearances that drop in dungeons and raids will be given to EVERYONE. Instead of being ninja’d by someone who just wants the look and not the gear, you won’t have to fight over gear to get your best look.
One key restriction is level restrictions to transmogging. You can only add transmog looks that are from gear at or below your level. That is, up to level 60, where this restriction is removed. But armor restrictions are still in place. I.e., cloth classes can only transmog on cloth armor, etc. BUT, you can also set your settings to ignore other players’ options for helmet and cloak toggling for an even purer Classic character look and feel. Blizzard is making Forever for those who want a more modern feel of the game or a pure experience without any new features.
The Legacy System improves the Classic Alt leveling experience
Legacy points are earned by exploring the world, clearing dungeons, and completing other challenges. Once obtained, you can spec into a new Legacy Talent system that improves experience gain, reduces gold spent, and sustain in the open world. There are 3 legacy trees at launch: Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness.
In the Adventure tree, you can increase the Rested EXP gain rate. For Resourcefulness, you’ll be able to improve the resources you gain from profession gathering or killing foes. The Legacy System is account-wide, so progressing multiple characters is absolutely a viable way to progress your overall account.
Along with improving your overall account, you’ll also get rewards, like mounts, pets, and more. More challenges and perks will be added during content updates to Forever. There’s definitely lots of space for more trees to be added in the Legacy menu.
Server Infrastructure is getting a massive overhaul, NO MORE REALMS!

Realm selection was a key choice for being able to play with friends, or being limited by server sizes. Instead of selecting a realm based on timezone or region, you’ll select based on playstyle. So the options to choose from are: PVP, Roleplay, and Normal modes.
Hardcore (i.e. one life before your character is gone forever) is coming later. The ruleset you pick, you’ll only be able to play with those who pick the same ruleset. But you can transfer between Normal and PVP play. Hardcore will be separated into its own activities.
Even Legacy rewards and points will be separate between the three available at launch and Hardcore. So getting a lot of Legacy Points on a Normal character won’t affect the effectiveness of a Hardcore character.
Servers will also focus on keeping familiar faces together. Those you see in the world will be more likely to be seen again and again. Same for guildmates. Language preference will also be available, which will focus on grouping players of the same language preference together for a more optimal experience. A great way to get around the server issue and make that first impactful choice while still serving to have players play the way they want to with the people they want to.
Combat will be kept as True to Classic Feel in World of Warcraft Forever

Combat philosophy is simple. Classes will be kept simple and distinct. No more homogenization. Dungeons and encounters will also be slower and tactical, unlike retail. Crowd control, threat, buffing, and mana conservation will be key.
In addition to simplifying and creating a new Classic experience, itemization is changing massively from its original form and Retail. WoW Classic stats with some changes. For instance, hit chance is now applicable to all attacks and abilities instead of being divided out to magic, nature, and melee hit chances. Weapon skills will also be retained but reduced in the amount gained on items. Healers will be more self-sufficient and can play as a healer while leveling. All healing gear will come with increased damage stats in addition to healing boosts.
Dungeon drops are also massively overhauled. Lots of new items have been added and improved for a better experience. Quest rewards have also been improved to help with gearing while exploring the world instead of just gold and experience. That is in addition to making quest rewards applicable to your class or spec, instead of, as a priest, getting a two-handed sword that you can’t use.
Racial Abilities are more impactful than ever

In addition to new class and race combinations with more to come, every race will receive two active and two passive abilities that are quite distinct from each other. For instance, Dwarves still get stoneform, but can now track treasures in addition to any other tracking ability.
They also get a passive increase in damage to beasts. So in addition to classes having specialized scenarios they’re better against, like paladins against undead, races will also have that specialized approach that will make a better group variety more preferred.
Classes will be distinct with Classic flair but feel new to World of Warcraft Forever

The design philosophy of talent updates in World of Warcraft Forever is simple: three talent trees all available at once. But the basic damage boosts are now baseline to classes and specs. Talents are now much more utility-based and add new variety to playstyles or preferences.
Similarly, class design is simple without being over-encumbering. Like with a Paladin using Judgment, you don’t lose your seal on the target. Judgment will now adapt based on what seal is up. But to keep true to the four-enemy max for threat maintenance, Consecration only does more damage to the first four enemies that enter it. So pulling smaller will always be key to keep the group safe as a tank. This is also improved with talents to increase that damage to the first four targets.
Paladins will still be powerhouses against undead, but limited in their use elsewhere. Like no interrupts, etc. So class and spec variety will be critical for group forming, and may break the meta mindset when min-maxing for higher-end content.
World of Warcraft Forever impressively mixes the old with the new in World of Warcraft design. Particularly from a technical standpoint, Forever is leaps and bounds more advanced than Retail. Balanced with a simplified class design to stay true to Classic philosophies, WoW Forever is really shaping up to be a stellar third pillar that is unique and could even be the new primary game mode after getting its footing.
World of Warcraft Forever is available November 4th on PC, with a beta launching on September 17th.
