One of the greatest announcements at the Summer Game Fest showcase was the first true reveal of Wolf Among Us 2. But even amongst the deafening roar of the crowd reacting to the return of Bigby Wolf, one other tidbit got dropped on the audience. The original Wolf Among Us was being remastered, and it was available for a hands-on demo at the Play Days event.
The world of Fables is a beloved one. A world where every fairy tale and mystical creature is real, where most of them have fled to the “real” world, a world filled with Mundy’s (non-magical, non-fairytale folk), and they are living in secret in a New York neighborhood dubbed Fabletown.
Here, characters ranging from the Big Bad Wolf (the main character), Snow White, the three little pigs, Beauty and the Beast, flying monkeys from Oz, and more all coexist and work together. At least, until the murder of a Fabletown resident kickstarts the investigation that lies at the heart of Wolf Among Us Remastered.
Wolf Among Us Remastered is still all driven by noir aesthetic and hallmarks.

Telltale promises the following enhancements to the classic and acclaimed episodic-driven narrative adventure: The complete story, with all five chapters included. Which, you know, feels like more of a baseline than a bullet point. Enhanced visuals and presentation, and bonus content such as behind-the-scenes material, developer commentaries, concept art, and more.
After getting hands-on time with the first episode of the remaster, one thing is clear – the original art style is timeless. One of Wolf Among Us’ greatest strengths was the cel-shaded comic book aesthetic that made it look like it was being adapted straight from the pages of DC and Vertigo’s Fables comic series.
So much so that, unlike most remasters, it is hard to even notice an upgrade. But of course, it is in fact upgraded – it runs at a higher resolution, and the animations are much smoother than they were back in the PS3/360 era.
Wolf Among Us Remastered isn’t a noticeable upgrade, but the animations have the right kind of advancement past the PS3 era.

There really isn’t too much to say about Wolf Among Us Remastered, at least in regard to its changes from the original release. As it stands, there is a reason it is widely regarded as one of the best Telltale Games experiences ever made. There is a reason its original release kick-started a renewed interest in the comic series. There is a reason fans have been clamoring for Wolf Among Us 2 to finally be real. Wolf Among Us Remastered serves two very vital roles.
The first is to serve as a new way for gamers old and new to either discover or rediscover the world of Fables through the lens of this incredible story. The second is to remind everyone that this game exists to help boost excitement and engagement for Wolf Among Us 2.
Both roles are important, and for fans of the original game, this remaster is a great excuse to play through it one more time before the sequel drops. Wolf Among Us Remastered is coming out in Holiday 2026. And what better time to dive back into the neo-noir fairytale murder mystery than that? At least it isn’t trying to release in September!
