2026’s Most Interesting Sci-Fi Game Might Be ‘Prove You’re Human’ From Sunset Visitor

Sunset Visitor 斜陽過客 is an independent games studio that we’re all watching after their cult success with 1000x Resist. Their next game, which also serves as the debut published title for developer-turned-publisher Black Tabby Publishing, is titled Prove You’re Human. Tackling the long-discussed subject of personhood and AI in science fiction, Sunset Visitor 斜陽過客 is treading a different path, bringing intimacy to the tension.

And if you’re thinking about the current landscape of artificial intelligence, well, Sunset Visitor 斜陽過客 is too. “For us, we’re always trying to have our heads up when we’re making things, and especially after 1000x was finishing in 2024,” he said. “When we were starting to idea what we might do next, and we looked up, we saw the landscape of things. We saw what was happening [with AI], and even to a lesser extent than now… Our primary influence was just the world around us, and trying to be very porous with it and let it into the writers’ room,” Creative Director Remy Siu said in an interview with us.

Only this isn’t your typical AI-and-personhood story, as Siu explained in our interview; it’s something more “achingly intimate,” and that’s what makes the trailer for the title, featured below, so haunting.

“We wanted to disarm that a little bit and subvert it, for sure, and in terms of what we want the players to feel, we want them to feel unsettled and have that expectation. We kind of want them to feel what you felt. And I think that will continue throughout the game, where there is personhood assigned to artificial intelligence is something that science fiction has tackled a lot, but I think one of the nice things about the medium that we’re working in is that it becomes even more intimate when it comes to you interacting with an entity, and learning that this entity truly believes what they say,” Remy Siu said.

The studio’s last game, 1000xRESIST, won a 2024 Peabody Award and was nominated for the Hugo and Nebula Awards. Which is to say, if you’re looking for a studio with the sci-fi chops to tackle AI and personhood, that’s Sunset Visitor 斜陽過客.

What is Prove You’re Human about?

Prove You're Human still from Sunset Visitor and Black Tabby Publishing

In Prove You’re Human, an AI named Mesa dares to dream she is human. And you, the player, have been hired to put her in her place. In a sci-fi narrative adventure, you play as Santana and split your consciousness into two. The company behind this program has a chance at achieving true AGI.

If you’re not familiar, AGI is Artificial General Intelligence, and it’s what every current AI company is trying to sprint toward; in other words, true AGI exceeds human intelligence. Prove You’re Human complicates this because the company’s AI, Mesa, believes she’s a human being. After seeing the trailer, one line keeps sticking with me: “I won’t take it for granted,” Mesa says, expressing her deep desire for a body. There are touches of horror in this sci-fi game, at least for those who can hear and see it. And now, it’s your job to train her out of these delusions.

  • Your work self will spend her days in a comfortable virtual world. Learn more about Mesa, break her defenses, and eliminate her illusions of humanity.
  • When you’re not working, roam the land and CAPTCHA your environment.
  • Get to know the various employees working hard to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible.
  • Keep up to date on your corporeal body, who will spend her days living the life you’ve always dreamed of in the outside world.
  • At the end of the program, decide if you’d like to re-merge your two selves or discard your work self.

What is the release date?

Prove You’re Human was announced as a part of the Triple I showcase and does not currently have a release date.
