If you’re like me, it’s the special effects that can make or break a film or television series. And horror remains one of the few genres still embracing the practical side of the art. So, it’s only fitting that Shudder and AMC+ are set to premiere Guts and Glory (stylized Guts & Glory). This new unscripted, horror-based competition show, executive produced by award-winning special effects artist Greg Nicotero, debuts with a two-episode premiere on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

Nicotero made the announcement during AMC Networks’ San Diego Comic-Con panel for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The series launch coincides with Shudder’s 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of horror programming. The “Shudder 10” initiative will feature the service’s most ambitious slate to date, along with special fan events, a nationwide screening series, and custom merchandise.

This milestone follows a critically successful 2024 for Shudder, which saw the streamer claim six of the year’s top 10 titles on Rotten Tomatoes’ 2024 Horror list, with Late Night With The Devil securing the #1 spot.

What is Greg Nicotero’s Guts and Glory?

Guts and Glory redefines the competition show format by immersing players in a horror experience filled with unexpected challenges. This is the streamer’s first foray into competition television, with the two-time Emmy-nominated Drag competition show The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, which has six seasons.

The series combines the intensity of a horror film with the strategic pressure of a survival game, pushing contestants to confront their deepest fears in various terrifying scenarios. New episodes of the six-episode series will be released weekly on Tuesdays in the U.S. and Canada.

Production Details

Guts and Glory is an AMC Studios production. Greg Nicotero serves as showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers include Brian Witten from Monster Agency Productions, Chris Wagner from White Label, and Andrew Molina from Salaryman. Jeffrey F. January is co-executive producer.

Late Night With The Devil

Shudder is the leading curatorial voice and cultural destination for genre entertainment, delivering an unparalleled selection of horror, thrillers, and the supernatural. The streaming service is home to classics, but more importantly, it’s one of the few places to see new and old international horror films.

With an ever-expanding library of films, TV series, and exclusive Originals, Shudder is accessible across most streaming devices in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Shudder releases approximately thirty films per year, and has redefined genre streaming with a slate of groundbreaking and critically acclaimed film titles:

  • Rob Savage’s Host
  • Jayro Bustamante’s Golden Globe-nominated La Llorona
  • Phil Tippett’s Mad God
  • Coralie Fargeat’s REVENGE
  • Kyle Edward Ball’s SKINAMARINK
  • Christian Tafdrup’s Speak No Evil
  • Chloe Okuno’s Watcher
  • Demián Rugna’s When Evil Lurks
  • Colin and Cameron Cairnes’ Late Night With The Devil
  • Damian McCarthy’s ODDITY
  • Emilie Blichfeldt’s The Ugly Stepsister

Shudder’s television collection is also something to love:

  • Mark Duplass’ The Creep Tapes
  • Greg Nicotero’s CREEPSHOW
  • The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs

Guts & Glory debuts on Shudder with a two-episode premiere on September 9, 2025.
