At PAX East 2025, NEXON held a live developer livestream session previewing the groundbreaking mega-update coming to their looter-shooter title, The First Descendant. Of course, this included a look at The First Descendant Season 3: Breakthrough. But one exciting element stole the show: Nier skins. That’s right, Nier: Automata is coming.
During the session, Beomjun Lee, Executive Producer, and Min-Seok Joo, Creative Director of The First Descendant, hosted a presentation previewing the upcoming mega update, Season 3: Breakthrough, launching this Summer. The update features a massive battlefield to explore, a sleek new Hover Bike, the Colossus Field Raid, the introduction of the ‘Lounge,’ a new Descendant, and more.

Following in the footsteps of some of gaming’s favorite collaborations (Hello from Puppet’s Bunker in FFXIV), The First Descendant’s first official crossover features the fan-favorite NieR: Automata. Whether it’s in the anime adaptation or any one of the games, 2B remains one of gaming’s best girls, and now, her iconic look is coming to NEXON’s first-person shooter.
What’s even more exciting for a game that thrives on its aesthetics is that NEXON has also announced that more IP collaborations are in the works. With Overwatch getting a Gundam crossover and even Diablo getting a BERSERK collab, these activations are becoming an exciting expectation for player communities. As such, as The First Descendant releases Season 3: Breakthrough and its massive summer update, it’s clear that there is so much more planned for its communities.
Additionally, the presentation revealed a highly requested crossover with the beloved Square Enix RPG NieR: Automata. To celebrate the upcoming one-year anniversary of The First Descendant, the team is preparing for the first-ever ‘TFD Fest’ in July, which will feature special events, a skin contest, and various celebratory items. The focus is to give back to the community that has kept the game growing.
NEXON has continued to encourage players to get involved in their Discord community, which was created as the game’s ongoing commitment to improving communication and gathering valuable feedback from the community.
