Netflix has announced that it has greenlit the production of a gripping new Korean Drama (K-Drama) series titled Notes From The Last Row, with a star-studded cast of veteran actors and rising talent including Choi Min-sik, Choi Hyun-wook, Huh Joon-ho, Kim Yunjin, and Jin Kyung. This highly anticipated drama is based on the popular Spanish play “El Chico de la última fila,” promising a unique blend of suspense and intricate character dynamics.

Produced by Kakao Entertainment and Gtist, Notes From The Last Row promises engaging storytelling backed by a stacked production team. The production is helmed by director Kim Gyu-tae (The Trunk, Our Blues), celebrated for his nuanced exploration of the human psyche in his different projects. Jang Myung-woo (My Mother, the Mermaid) is the series writer. These two will be weaving a web of complex relationships and moments in this new K-Drama.

What is Netflix’s Notes from the Last Row About?

Notes From The Last Row centers around Heo Mun-oh, a grumpy literature professor and failed writer, whose jaded world takes a fascinating turn when he becomes captivated by the raw talent of Lee Kang, a mysterious student who always prefers the back row of his class.

The story truly kicks off when Mun-oh, burdened by his insecurities and unfulfilled dreams, begins special literature classes with Lee Kang. The student’s sheer brilliance remarkably reignites Mun-oh’s long-dormant passion for writing. As their unique relationship deepens, prepare for a rollercoaster of unexpected twists and turns.

Notes from the Last Row Cast & Characters:

  • Choi Min-sik (Exhuma, Oldboy) as Heo Mun-oh
Mun-oh is one of the more complex characters in the series. Lee Kang’s single submission piques his interest, leading him to take the young student under his wing. Conflicted and troubled by his student, we’re excited to see actor Choi in this role.
  • Choi Hyun-wook (Weak Hero, Twenty-Five Twenty-One) as Lee Kang
Kang is an engineering student with a surprising, hidden literary gift. Under Mun-oh’s mentorship, Lee Kang embarks on an unpredictable journey, shaped by the professor’s intense interest in his work.
  • Huh Joon-ho (Buried Hearts, Noryang: Deadly Sea) as Kim Su-hun
Su-hun, is Mun-oh’s successful writer friend. Laid-back and self-assured thanks to his fame, Su-hun has long been the secret source of Mun-oh’s jealousy, leaving a lingering sense of defeat for the professor.

The ensemble cast includes:

  • Kim Yunjin (Lost, Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area) as Ahn Eun-joo, Su-hun’s wife
  • Jin Kyung (Veteran, Extraordinary Attorney Woo) as Jo Hyeon-suk, Mun-oh’s psychologist wife.

Notes From The Last Row will air exclusively on Netflix and has not yet begun production.
