Marvel has a determination to get the cinematic adaptation of The Fantastic Four right. Their version of the story is the Marvel Studios’ first chance to bring the characters into the MCU. Previously the characters resided under 20th Century Fox. Now, as was the case with Spider-Man and Deadpool, characters in the larger Marvel world will be allowed to be explored by the titan studio. The first order of business? Announcing the much discussed and long-awaited cast.
Who Is Playing the ‘Fantastic Four’
Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn will pick up the mantles of these iconic characters. The actors play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Johnny Storm/The Human Torch. This follows the theme of the MCU casting a mix of established names and fresh, up-and-comers. Pascal has obviously had an incredible past few years, especially with the success of The Last of Us. Similarly, Moss-Bacharach has come into the spotlight, both with the critical success of The Bear but also too with his involvement in another Disney produced venture, Andor. Kirby has been on the cusp of major stardom for years from her roles in everything form The Crown to the ‘Mission:Impossible’ franchise. Meanwhile, Quinn was a major breakout in Stranger Things Season 4.
The Fantastic Four follows three previous interpretations of Marvel’s ‘First Family’ has hit the screens. The first was the forgotten 1994 version. Next up, and more mainstream ready, was the 2005 version. It was here Chris Evan’s stepped into the superhero specter as Johnny Storm. Campy and chasing a classical, superhero style, the franchise would attempt an overhaul in 2015’s Fantastic Four. The film from Josh Trank and starring Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller, inspired by films more in line with the ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy swung for something darker and grittier. Now, finally, yet another ten years later, it seems that Marvel is trying to course correct.
