The wild and intense team-based action game Exoprimal is back with a new Capcom Collab, this time featuring content from the beloved world of the Monster Hunter franchise. The new collaboration comes alongside the Season 3 title update from developer Capcom and brings all sorts of new fun to the game.
The first thing to notice in the new update is two new 10-player co-op missions. These missions occur after two teams of five complete their separate missions and are joined together for some truly epic action. There is a low chance of either of the two new battles popping up, so players will need to play quite a bit to unlock them. Directly queueing up a mission is not an option, unfortunately.
First up we have Neo Triceratops. Neo Triceratops is like if a normal Triceratops went through a time-traveling adventure and was left completely mutated. Ok, so it’s nothing like a normal Triceratops, but it is pretty stinking cool. Its purple glowing horns make it a sight to behold, but it takes a ton of effort to bring down. This fast-paced battle requires focus and coordination but the rewards are worth it.
Neo Triceratops is a downright intimidating boss to fight. The visual aesthetic is so engrossing that it is a distraction from the destruction Neo Triceratops is raining down on players. The lightning attacks are a challenge to counter, making Neo Triceratops one of the more mechanically impressive boss fights in all of Exoprimal. The fight is so challenging that I let out an audible sigh of relief the first time I beat it. The only real downside is that it is so hard to get the battle to actually show up
The Exoprimal Monster Hunter collaboration really shines with Rathalos, the second of the two new bosses. Rathalos is a flying wyvern that has been around since the very start of the Monster Hunter franchise. Rathalos spawns after players find monster tracks and complete Dino Survival objectives. The more players actively searching for monster tracks, the higher the chance you have of spawning the fight.
The Rathalos fight itself is incredibly exciting. Trying to dodge his fiery attacks takes patience and skill. This is hard when there are nine other players frantically trying to do the same thing. There is a “the floor is lava” mechanic that was especially chaotic but incredibly fun. The fight is a beautiful combination of gameplay mechanics and visual design that is truly breathtaking.
The Exoprimal Monster Hunter collab also features four new skins available for purchase. Murasame, Skywave, Barrage, and Roadblock each have a new Monster Hunter-themed skin and they all look great. Roadblock’s Rajang skin is a particular favorite. There are also new Beta variant skins released as a part of Title Update 3 that feature new looks for Deadeye, Barrage, Roadblock, and Skywave. The Beta variants have different skills than their base versions which changes the playstyle of those characters in interesting ways.
The Exoprimal Monster Hunter collaboration brings great boss fights and fun new skins in an excellent package. Fans of Exoprimal and Monster Hunter alike are going to find plenty of enjoyment as the game heads into its next stage in preparation for Title Update 4.
Exoprimal Monster Hunter collaboration is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
