CATAN – Console Edition

Dovetail Games announced CATAN – Console Edition is out today, giving fans of the hugely popular board game a means to play with friends online or to gather them around the couch and in front of a board that truly comes to life! The official console version of the international board game hit, available digitally for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Series X|S consoles, has been in development courtesy of publisher Dovetail Games, with help from their friends over at Nomad Games.

Players will immerse themselves in an animated board populated with characters farming and mining resources, sheep roaming their respective hexes, and the Robber waiting for their moment to move. Ships occupy the surrounding harbors, and Settlements and Cities appear as players continue to build and trade with one another.

Success comes with earning Victory Points, which can be gained in various ways, including building the ‘Longest Road’ or amassing the ‘Largest Army.’ Building Cities and Settlements also earn these points with the five key resources on the island needed to build and expand in the areas between the hexes. Strategy is key to success, and players must decide throughout each game whether to plough on with their own building or work with their opponents, AI or real, by trading resources and moving the Robber to thwart others’ progress.

CATAN has always been about playing together, and with the Card Companion on smartphones, players can all gather around one TV without the risk of seeing the resources that others have. Online play utilizes cross-play to ensure PlayStation and Xbox players can enjoy CATAN – Console Edition together, and solo players can tackle the various AI characters based on CATAN lore that each have their way of building and trading.

There are a host of challenges to complete in a game where no two boards are the same, and players can customize their experience with Dice Skins and Hex Frames showcasing their skills to other players. Those that follow the real-life CATAN World Championships can also play on five game boards featured in previous years’ World, European and American competitions by purchasing the game’s Deluxe Edition.

CATAN – Console Edition is out now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Series X/S consoles.
