Fallout 3 and 4

Dogmeat Fall Out - But Why Tho

Perhaps one of the most beloved dogs in all of gaming, Dogmeat is a companion who has graced gamers’ sides ever since the original Fallout game. With Xbox Game Pass, you can boot up Fallout 3 or Fallout 4 and unlock this loyal friend to travel the wastelands by your side, alerting you to enemies, fetching objects for you, and defending you with his life. He’s not especially hard to unlock, often happening just by playing naturally through the games. And you’ll be more than glad you did when he may keep you company for the majority of the game.

Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 Boomer - But Why Tho

Boomer plays a similar role in Far Cry 5 as Dogmeat does in the Fallout games. He’s a recruit that can accompany you throughout the game, with the abilities to automatically spot enemies and wildlife as well as automatically pillage dead enemies. A steady companion in combat, he’ll occasionally pick up guns and run them to you as well. His animation is totally adorable to the point where it’s hard not to keep him in your party.

Pupperazzi

Pupperazzi - But Why Tho

Pupperazzi is an entire game about photographing dogs. What more needs to be said? It’s a simple, soft, stylistic game about building a social media following through puppy photos around a variety of locales. However you choose to go about your photo journey in this game, every shot you snap will be adorable.

Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves Dogs - But Why Tho

There is another whole class of video games with dogs where the dogs don’t serve much practical function but they do make your time playing simply more enjoyable. These last two games largely fit that bill. In Sea of Thieves you can purchase all kinds of pets, and if you’re looking for a dog companion to lounge about your ship, you’ll be able to purchase a number of different breeds and colors. You can even snag some outfits to put them in too.

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley - But Why Tho

A gem on Xbox Game Pass unto itself, a playthrough of Stardew Valley is not complete without selecting a dog to be your pet. Does it do much practically? Absolutely not. You could go years in the game without giving it water with zero consequences. But if you do choose to give it love, whether for points towards Grandma’s shrine or just because you’re a human with a beating heart, you can never go wrong with having a little buddy hanging around as you manage your farm.

Certainly these are not the only games with dogs on Xbox Game Pass. But whether you want to hang with Dogmeat or adorn your pirate ship with man’s best friend, you can’t go wrong with any of these adventures. You can start each of these adventures today by subscribing to Xbox Game Pass with !
