Layers of Fears

Bloober Team and co-developer Anshar Studios are proud to unveil their latest masterpiece: Layers of Fears. This project was originally teased last year, giving fans a glimpse of the experience to come. Today, they’re announcing that Layers of Fears is a psychological horror chronicle built upon the foundations of the original Layers of Fear, Layers of Fear: Inheritance, and Layers of Fear 2. The psychedelic experience fans know and love will include an expanded plotline and gameplay direction all created in Unreal Engine 5.

Layers of Fears will be launching simultaneously on PC (on Steam and Epic Game Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023. Check out the official reveal trailer featuring a closer look at the updated graphics, gameplay, and the setting for the new story chapter.

Piotr Babieno, Bloober Team’s CEO, provides a peek behind the curtain to offer some insight on their choice of name:

“We are bringing back a franchise that is really special for us, in a new form that will give players a truly fresh gaming experience and that will shed new light on the overall story. Our plan was to recreate the games, but we didn’t want to make it a simple collection of two remastered games. We’ve worked out a new approach, something that is maybe not yet obvious. But I can tell you there’s a reason why we called it Layers of Fears.”

Players who seek mature stories with hidden meanings should prepare for an exquisite horror experience thanks to the expanded plot lines that will cast a new light on the overarching narrative. They will face spine-chilling madness that extends over generations. Those looking for even more visceral thrills will enjoy the CORSAIR’s iCUE Integration system, providing dynamic lighting effects that will turn their desktop into a fully synchronized, real-time visualization of in-game actions.

The first Layers of Fear, released in 2016, made waves in the gaming industry with its unique take on the first-person psychological horror experience told from the point of view of a painter obsessively trying to finish his Magnum Opus—no matter the cost. This award-winning title successfully created a new direction for both the Bloober Team studio and the psychological horror genre that increased its popularity in the mainstream gaming community. Layers of Fear was later expanded with a story DLC titled Inheritance.

In 2019, Bloober Team released an indirect sequel, Layers of Fear 2, telling the story of a Hollywood actor who heeds the call of a despotic director (voiced by horror legend Tony Todd) to star in a film shot aboard an ocean liner.
