DLC REVIEW: The “Crocodilia Coast” Brings Life to The Beach In ‘Jurassic World Evolution 3’

With the new “Crocodilia Coast” DLC pack, Jurassic World Evolution 3 is thinking not only about adding new animals, but also about how to effectively use your dino parks’ space to the max. One of the best things Frontier Developments does as a studio is continuously investing resources in its existing titles. This has boosted the longevity of their games, with DLC packs sparking new life in each title when they release. Whether it’s new buildings, animals, campaign themes, or anything else. 

The last DLC added more flavor to the game’s campaign by letting players engage with the story and island from Jurassic World: Rebirth. Now, like with the Wetlands DLC pack, Frontier is investing in other parts of the park too.

Jurassic World Evolution 3 gives players habitat options on land, in the air, and in the water. But “Crocodilia Coast” makes the most of it. While it does add in new dinosaurs, it’s the rest of the DLC pack, especially its new Boardwalk blueprints, that truly push the game further, especially when it comes to usable park space.

The Crocodilia Coast DLC pack starts off by adding the Deinosuchus (ancestor of modern-day crocodiles), Styxosaurus (the Loch Ness-looking dinosaur named for the River Styx), the Desmatosuchus (a very, very ancient ancestor of the armadillo), and the Shonisaurus (a gigantic marine reptile that’s chunkier than most). This expansion into the water continues with a free update that launched alongside this new DLC Pack, which finally gives the Elasmosaurus a family unit. 

But the land is not forgotten in this DLC, both in building blueprints and with the introduction of the last new dinosaur, the Postosuchus. With the Crocodilia Coast DLC pack, park managers are given more variety for their carnivores. This choice helps balance the options available for different habitats. 

Unfortunately, the introduction of new sea creatures also highlights how sparse water habitats are for decorating, compared to their land or even avian counterparts. More creatures are always good; however, planning layouts in the new Hawai’i sandbox map (added with Update 1.4.1), balancing between the kinds of habitats can get difficult, and ultimately, the marine habitats remain the weakest of the bunch. 

That said, this is also why the Crocodilia Coast DLC’s titular dinosaur addition, the Deinosuchus, is the strongest of the bunch. A coastal creature, this ancient croc offers every park manager the challenge of creating an environment that offers more than just one thing. Building my habitat for the Deinosuchus was the second-best experience with the new Jurassic World Evolution 3 DLC. 

While making their habitat is a part of the fun, seeing how the dinosaurs act together and interact with their juveniles is a standout for the game’s dinosaur animations. A fearsome predator, the interactions between adult and juvenile Deinosuchus are a highlight. In their coastal habitats, they give parks something unique. 

Beyond designing coastal habitats and integrating dams to build deep pools for the larger marine additions to Jurassic World Evolution 3, the Styxosaurus and the Shonisaurus help create one continuous attraction. While the underwater fauna could use more diversity (and some of that may be a creativity issue on my end), how easy it is to connect separate habitats is a strength for immersive park managers

Jurassic World Evolution 3’s animal interactions and animations were a standout at launch, and with each DLC it feels like they keep getting better. Sure, the Deinosuchus has the best animations, including its death roll, but all of the dinosaurs added in the Crocodilia Coast DLC have at least one animation that makes them stand out.

Additionally, the differences between their sizes, habitats, and temperaments allow each of them to be unique and not just five new animals added to the game with little variation on how they interact with what you build for them. The Desmatosuchus wind up being some of the cutest new additions to Jurassic World Evolution 3, but that is usually the case with herbivores.

Because its primary addition is a coast-based dinosaur, the Crocodilia Coast DLC also gives players the ability to decorate their waterfronts with new items. This pushes players to use areas that weren’t really usable before. The new boardwalk blueprints and buildings help pull everything together. With hundreds of scenery pieces, including a full wall kit, props, lights, and signage, creating new lagoon attractions is both easy and highly creative. 

Overall, the Crocodilia Coast DLC brings new ways to build to Jurassic World Evolution 3 and keeps encouraging players to build bigger, deeper, and more immersive enclosures. Simple, like many of the DLC packs, the new additions don’t just keep adding flavor to the game, it adds more to do, and more to love.
