The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 brings new daring challenges, quests, and foes that turn the lives of Exandria’s most intrepid mercenaries, turned valiant heroes, upside down. The Amazon MGM Studios, Critical Role, and Titmouse production stars Critical Role founders and veteran cast members such as Laura Bailey as Vex’ahlia, Taliesin Jaffe as Percy, Ashley Johnson as Pike, Liam O’Brien as Vax’ildan, Marisha Ray as Keyleth, Sam Riegel as Scanlan, and Travis Willingham as Grog. The Critical Role cast members also serve as executive producers alongside Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, and Ben Kalina of Titmouse.
In The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4, it has been a whole year since the Chroma Conclave conflict and Raishan. The members of Vox Machina have gone their separate ways in search of purpose, love, and family. However, some have adjusted to their new lives, while others still crave the call of adventure and action. The team’s hard-earned peace does not last for long as new threats pull their fates and lives back together. Now, when a long-slumbering evil power awakens to threaten the world, Vox Machina must reunite to take on a new, yet familiar epic foe.
The voice talents of the Vox Machina cast do not disappoint this season, delivering standout performances across the board, from the veteran cast to the new additions. Cast members like Travis Willingham and Ashley Johnson, who voice Grog and Pike, respectively, do a superb job of showing their characters’ multifaceted layers and emotional and mental states. Whether through heartfelt moments, comic relief, or intense confrontations, each performance in The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 deepens the audience’s connection to these characters.
The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 cast continues to slay in the voice department.

Willingham and Johnson, in particular, do an awesome job of playing off their characters’ interactions to bring out some of the season’s most emotional, heartwrenching moments. Other cast members also excel at playing off their characters’ relationships to bring out the most from every exchange and scene. Some standouts to look out for this season are moments between Vax’ildan, Percy, Keyleth, and Vex’ahlia.
The animation is also one of the show’s biggest strengths in The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4, especially in the design and animation of new creatures and powers. The action scenes are vibrant, with animators blending fluid movements, cinematic direction, and stunning effects that make every moment feel engaging and impactful. The large-scale magical clashes with characters like Keyleth, Pike, and Vax’ildan are just as impressive as the fighting sequences with Grog and Percy.
It is beautiful to see the members of Vox Machina living their lives for more than just surviving. Much of the previous season’s plots required the team to jump from one fight to the next, each world-ending. The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4, however, opens with a different change of pace for the members of Vox Machina. After the events of Percy’s resurrection and saving the world yet again, it is no surprise that some of the members of Vox Machina needed a break from questing.

It is actually refreshing, albeit a little strange, to watch the members of Vox Machina adjust to life apart from each other. For the first time in a long time, some members are given the chance to explore who they are when they aren’t carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. Even though it seems everyone is doing their best to move forward in their lives, they are still very drawn to being together again and to a new adventure, which speaks to the group’s deep connection and their shared familial-like bond. It is unfortunate that their reunion once again drags them into another adventure that may involve another world-ending threat.
In addition to offering a glimpse of the new era of peace, The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 also shows the aftermath of Vox Machina’s battles with the Chroma Conclave and the massive impact the conflict had on villages and individuals. Even though Exandria’s residents love and praise Vox Machina for their heroism, some have to live with the death, destruction, and trauma that the dragons left in their wake last year.
Unfortunately, the aftermath of the dragons has also caused some individuals to blame Vox Machina for not doing more to protect them. Rather than treating the Chroma Conclave conflict as a completely closed chapter this season, the show uses the aftermath to explore the lasting scars left on the kingdom’s survivors and the survivors’ remorse certain characters feel.
The aftermath of the previous season carries over into Season 4 in how the characters recover.

Pike, in particular, carries the burden of guilt for the damage and loss from last season more than any other member of Vox Machina. The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 shows a version of Pike who is experiencing burnout and exhaustion as a hero. As Pike and Grog continue going on adventures and saving people, she sees the personal consequences that many innocents had to endure because Vox Machina failed to save everyone.
The emotional fallout is especially present in Pike’s character arc, which takes her into darker, more pessimistic territory than what we have seen in previous seasons. The show does a tremendous job calling back to Pike’s struggles with faith from previous seasons and uses that part of her internal conflict to play a larger role throughout this season.
It is also clear that Pike’s emotional turmoil is not just because of guilt and regret but is rooted in grief, empathy, and unresolved trauma. By leveraging these emotions and characters’ vulnerability, the show delivers some of the most compelling storytelling. It adds greater depth to both the characters’ individual arcs and the story as a whole.

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 truly excels when it balances its epic fantasy adventure with deeply personal storytelling that resonates with its audience and meaningful character growth. Some characters this season have more than their fair share of internal struggles and conflicts that push not only themselves but their relationships to the brink. Whereas other characters truly mature and develop, showing a deep emotional intelligence that becomes the emotional anchor and voice of reason for this season.
For example, Vax’ildan’s blight continues to be a point of internal conflict for him, as he is forced to consider that he may not be able to escape his fate this time. At various times throughout The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4, Vax tries to downplay his situation and pain to protect his loved ones, but doing so also strains his relationship with his partner, Keyleth. Much like a real-world terminal disease, Vax’ildan’s struggle goes beyond his own fears and into the emotional turmoil experienced by his partner.
In contrast, Keyleth, who is extremely powerful, is forced to watch and feel powerless as the man she loves slips beyond her grasp slowly as his blight worsens. Through Keyleth, the show captures the complicated reality of trying to balance loving someone with anticipatory grief, heartbreak, frustration, and helplessness she feels as she continues to love and care for someone whose future and fate are uncertain.

It is also interesting how Keyleth’s desire to save and cure Vax’ildan mirrors Delilah Briarwood’s obsession with curing her own husband. The decision to have Keyleth’s arc mirror that of a previous foe suggests that she may reach a point in her journey where she must choose how far she is willing to go to save her love.
Although The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 does not suggest that Keyleth will become a villain like Delilah Briarwood, her story is a great example of how far someone will go for love. Keyleth’s character arc this season also explores how grief, fear, and desperation can push even the most caring and empathetic person towards resources they have never considered before.
In terms of character development, Grog truly stands out this season. It remains one of the best things about this show, from losing and regaining his strength in previous seasons to now being the emotional voice of reason for others. Grog’s growth as a character this season really shines, and it is such a delight to see how his character continues to evolve and exceed expectations as the team’s muscle and now its heart.
The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 builds on everything that came before and delivers epic emotional damage.

The storytelling of The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 excels at building on the groundwork laid in all previous seasons. Great callbacks to characters and lore from season one are thoughtfully interwoven into the season’s overarching conflict, making for a very satisfying story from start to finish. Although not all the narrative threads this season are neatly wrapped up, the show, with 12 well-paced episodes, does a great job of setting the stage for the story to continue next season.
The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 is as emotionally impactful as it is epic. This season is a worthy continuation of Vox Machina’s journey, delivering yet another stellar chapter in the animated epic series by blending fantasy adventure with emotionally resonant storytelling. This season brings new, formidable threats and exciting expansions to Exandria’s lore, but the show’s greatest strength is its characters and how it continues to evolve them throughout the story.
Along with the show’s gorgeous animation, strong voice performances, and amazing action, The Legend of Vox Machina continues to prove why it is one of the best fantasy animation series.
The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 starts with a three-episode premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on June 3, 2026. The show will release episodes in three-episode batches on Wednesdays.
