It is a good time to be a One Piece fan. From Season 2 of the live-action series surpassing the bar of live-action adaptations, to the return of the anime that has never looked better and is sailing into a much-anticipated arc, the long-running franchise from Eiichiro Oda continues to build on its longstanding legacy.
Netflix is capitalizing on the ongoing success of the series (which first began just over 30 years ago). First, with the date announcement for the already announced Season 3 of the live-action, which will beckon in some major new characters, the newly produced Wit Studio (Spy x Family) , The One Piece, and more.
Charting the course for Alabasta.
Netflix has unveiled the title for Season 3, which will premiere in 2027 (a much shorter turnaround following the three-year gap between Season 1 and 2). Dubbed One Piece: The Battle of Alabasta, the series is about to tackle one of the more formative arcs of the series. The synopsis reads:
“In this upcoming season, war is coming for Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew in the desert kingdom of Alabasta, Princess Vivi’s homeland. A rebellion threatens to tear the nation apart, fueled in secret by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works, who seek to conquer Alabasta for themselves.
In a season defined by unbreakable bonds and impossible choices, the Straw Hats must face a brewing civil war and a powerful warlord to save Vivi’s kingdom before it crumbles into the sand. Fans can look forward to formidable new enemies and brand-new worlds where the stakes have never been higher.”
Considering the amount of story covered in Seasons 1 and 2, it will be interesting, based on the names alone, whether all of Season 3 will focus solely on the Alabasta arc, which ran for 63 chapters and 39 episodes in the manga and anime. While there’s no official premiere date, the series will return in 2027 the next leg in the journey, with Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero, Taz Skylar, Mikaela Hoover, and Charithra Chandran all returning.
A fresh take on the East Blue.

Get ready to see the Straw Hat crew assemble once more with the buzzed about and new adaptation of the story from Wit Studio with The One Piece. While no new information has been released, the production, in collaboration with Shueisha, Toei Animation, and Fuji Television has released a behind the scenes video.
While there are plenty of us who enjoy the rough around the edges glut that defines ’90s intro of the series, the Wit Studio production will help draw in a new audience ready to start the adventure but scared away by the 1000+ episodes of the ongoing anime.
Per Netflix, “The series utilizes cutting-edge visual technology to bring the legendary start of Luffy’s quest to a new generation.”
You can watch Season 1 and 2 of One Piece on Netflix.
