When it comes to Korean television series, KDrama has defined a lot of Netflix’s big successes. But as we’ve seen more Netflix Original Korean series we’re also getting more genres like action, horror, psychological thrillers, and of course, fantasy. Netflix has announced that the highly anticipated K-fantasy romantic comedy, Genie Make a Wish, starring Kim Woo-bin and Suzy, will premiere globally on October 3, 2025.

Genie Make a Wish is a stark difference from writer Kim Eun-sook’s last work for Netflix, The Glory. Kim Eun-sook’s The Glory was one of our best K-dramas and television series the year it released which we described as a “brutal watch.”

The series marks the highly anticipated on-screen reunion of K-romcom icons Kim Woo-bin and Suzy, a pairing that has generated significant fan buzz. The project also features a standout supporting cast, including Ahn Eun-jin, Noh Sang-hyun, Ko Kyu-pil, and Lee Zoo-young, all of whom are set to add extra depth and charm to the fantastical world of the series.

What is Genie Make A Wish about?

The series introduces viewers to the mischievous spirit Genie, portrayed by Kim Woo-bin, who awakens from a thousand-year slumber after being found by an emotionless young woman named Ka-young, played by Suzy. As the new owner of his magical lamp, Ka-young is granted three life-changing wishes.

The story follows Genie as he attempts to navigate the modern world with his devilish ways, all while he and the emotionally guarded Ka-young find themselves drawn into an unexpected and electrifying romance. The show is described as a blend of fantasy, humor, and heartfelt moments, offering a whimsical world full of surprises. The revelation that Genie is actually Iblis, or Satan, adds a playful twist to the classic premise.

The series, which promises a stress-free and magical watch, is set to be released just in time for Korea’s Chuseok holiday, bringing a fresh take on the classic wish-granting tale to audiences around the world. This series is not the first time the leading couple has worked with Netflix.

Genie Make a Wish Cast

  • Kim Woo-bin (Officer Black Belt, Black Knight) as Genie aka Iblis/Satan
  • Suzy (Doona!, Start-up) as Ka-young
  • Ahn Eun-jin (Hospital Playlist, Goodbye Earth) as the mysterious Mi-joo
  • Noh Sang-hyun (Love in the Big City, Pachinko) as Soo-hyun, Genie’s brother and rival
  • Ko Kyu-pil (The Roundup: No Way Out) as Sayyid, Genie’s assistant who’s secretly a black jaguar
  • Lee Zoo-young (The 8 Show, Shades of the Heart) as Min-ji, Ka-young’s only friend

Bae Suzy previously starred in Netflix’s Doona! and Start-up. About Doona!, a series about longing, love, and rebuilding your life after stardom, our critic said: “Lee Doona’s journey in the series allows her to falter, make mistakes, and still chase her dreams, whether that’s in love with Won-joon or on a reclaimed stage. The tender way that the series allows its lead to flourish and find herself is exciting and heartfelt. Bae Suzy’s past as an idol puts a unique filter on the series that makes its commentary on the idol-making machine snap into focus.”

For Kim Woo-bin, he starred in Officer Black Belt (a Netflix oringal Korean film) and Black Knight, a sci-fi series set in an apocalyptic world. Our crtiic had this to say about the series: “Kim Woo-bin as 5-8 commands every room he walks into, a mostly silent intimidating presence that I deeply want to know more about.”
