Stardock and Oxide Games announce Ashes of the Singularity II, a highly-anticipated sequel to the real-time strategy game that pioneered massive-scale battles. Releasing a decade after the original, the game will expand on the series’ signature strategic combat, this time introducing a new playable faction: the humans.

“Ten years ago, we set a new, literal benchmark for RTS games with massive battles and groundbreaking technology,” said Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock Entertainment in a release to press. “With Ashes of the Singularity II, we’re raising the bar even higher, delivering strategic gameplay depth that RTS fans have always dreamed of.”

What is Ashes of the Singularity II?

Developed by Oxide Games and published by Stardock Entertainment, the company behind the acclaimed Sins of a Solar Empire series, Ashes of the Singularity II promises to elevate the RTS genre once again.

The original game’s story envisioned a future where powerful AI battled post-human factions for control of the solar system. Now, in the year 2031, humans return to the frontlines as the United Earth Forces, a powerful alliance of NATO, China, and Russia. In Ashes of Singularity II, players will command this new faction as they attempt to reclaim Earth’s territories and outposts across the solar system from the relentless AI and formidable Post-Humans.

“Obviously, in the first game, the number one request was to have a human faction,” said Wardell in the same release. “Back then, we just couldn’t support having thousands of organic, walking, squishy people in the world and thus had to design in favor of machines. We’re really excited to bring the humans into the war and watch how they fare against the massive mechanical armies of the Substrate and PHC.”

  • A New Faction: The game adds the long-requested human faction, the United Earth Forces, giving players the chance to command thousands of “organic, walking, squishy people” against the mechanical armies of the Substrate and PHC.
  • Expanded Gameplay: The sequel introduces new units, more sophisticated gameplay mechanics, greater strategic depth, and intricate base-building dynamics.
  • Story-Driven Campaign: A gripping, story-driven campaign sets the stage for the war, allowing players to fight for humanity’s future in a chillingly familiar near-future landscape.
  • Massive Battles: Powered by an updated engine, the game once again allows for battles of unprecedented scale, with thousands of units fighting across maps the size of continents.
  • Multiplayer Modes: Players can engage in robust cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes in addition to the single-player campaign.
