Publisher Shueisha Games announced Yakoh Shinobi Ops, a co-op tactical stealth action game developed by ACQUIRE Corp. during the Sony State of Play. The title is currently in development and is slated to come to PlayStation 5 and Steam in 2027.

“Yakoh Shinobi Ops represents the kind of experience we love to champion at Shueisha Games: memorable gaming moments created to be shared,” Makoto Hayashi, Senior Producer at Shueisha Games, said via a release to media.

“Working with ACQUIRE Corp., a studio renowned for its history in shinobi action games, has been deeply inspiring. Their decades of experience in crafting tense, tactical gameplay has allowed us to take our game in a new direction for the genre that feels both classic and refreshingly modern,” Hayashi said.

Taking place during the Warring States era Japan the title is said to offer an “authentic” shinobi infiltration experience and from the reveal trailer, it looks like it! The most interesting bit from the reveal trailer is that thi sins’t just a historical game, and you can tell that from the brief look at one of the bosses.

What is Yakoh Shinobi Ops?

Dubbed a “hardcore stealth action game,” the core premise of Yakoh Shinobi Ops is for a group of four Shinobi to work together in order to escape near-certain death. Like any good stealth game, the current information on the title explains that killing enemies isn’t always the goal, and ultimately, a good shinobi won’t have to. Allowing players to develop the arts of concealment in order to survive and accomplish their mission.

In the game, the player’s operation will take them behind enemy lines, where the watchful sentries and countless traps need to be avoided. In order to complete the objective, coordination is key as are the different skills each of the party members has. Still, a one simple mishap can end it all.

That said, the next element of the game that sounds extremely intriguing is that the game isn’t about just completing the operation. All Shinobi must return alive to truly fulfill their duty which makes working with your team and use every method at your disposal to survive. Overcoming such trials is the way of the Shinobi.

Game Features as shared by Shueisha Games:

Unique Ninjutsu – Each of the Shinobi has a role to play with unique ninjutsu from scaling heights with grappling hooks and smashing through walls to carving new paths, to deploying smokescreens and flash grenades to disorient foes.

Enemy Hunters – The “Hunters” are the enemies in this game and they’re “undying.” Because of this Shinobi will need to strategically handle them, since going head first into conflict will result in dying. Survival demands evasion to achieve your noble mission but the Hunters’ relentless pursuit pushes stealth and speed at the same time.

How many players is Yakoh Shinobi Ops?

Yakoh Shinobi Ops will feature one to four player co-op, allowing each player to pick a shinobi and play their part. However, as of right now, the game has only listed online co-op, with no mention of local.

What is the release date?

The game is currently in development and has no dedicated release date. The title is set to launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5 and Steam, localized in English, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Simplified & Traditional Chinese and Korean.
