If you’ve been waiting for more House of the Dragon to get your Game of Thrones fix, well, why not try an RTS? PlaySide Studios has officially unveiled Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, a new real-time strategy game set to launch globally in 2026. This upcoming PC title will immerse players in the brutal world of the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning HBO series, also drawing inspiration from George R.R. Martin’s renowned A Song of Ice and Fire novels.

Developed and published by PlaySide Studios, and officially licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on behalf of HBO, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is described as a “classic, premium real-time strategy PC game.”

Players will have the opportunity to command one of the iconic Great Houses, or even the formidable Night King, as they strive to conquer the Seven Kingdoms. The game is set to feature both solo campaigns and challenging free-for-all multiplayer battles, allowing players to rally iconic heroes and potentially rewrite the destiny of the realm.

“Game of Thrones: War for Westeros takes fans back to the Seven Kingdoms. This time, you’re not watching the ‘Game of Thrones’ – you’re playing it,” stated Ryan McMahon, Game Director at PlaySide Studios. “War for Westeros puts you in the seat of power, whether you’re leading the Starks, Targaryens, or Lannisters, or even commanding the Night King and his army of the dead, you’ll wield real power and rewrite the fate of the realm.”

What is Game of Thrones: War For Westeros?

In War for Westeros, players will lead the armies of House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the Night King in intense free-for-all conflicts where strategy, alliances, and deception will be paramount. Each faction will offer deeply asymmetric strategies, boasting unique heroes, armies, and mechanics that reflect the rich lore of Westeros.

The battlefield will be filled with diverse units, including infantry, cavalry, siege engines, giants, and even dragons, all deployable to break enemy lines. Success will hinge on outmaneuvering rivals with inspiring hero abilities and the ruthless instincts of a true war commander.

From the frozen lands beyond the Wall to the bustling streets of King’s Landing, players can engage in quick skirmish matches or embark on longer, more expansive wars across the Seven Kingdoms. Every decision and battle will carry weight, influencing the ongoing struggle for power.

Whether playing solo or with friends, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros aims to let fans re-envision pivotal battles and turning points from the series, manipulating the political landscape to rally powerful bannermen, sway loyalties, and outmaneuver adversaries.

Game of Thrones: War for the Westeros is set to release sometime in 2026.
