Niantic announced that a new season of Monster Hunter Now will launch on December 11 at 4 p.m. PST / 7 p.m. EST.
In Season 4: Roars from the Winterwind, players can explore the snow-filled tundra habitat, face brand-new monsters, and try a new weapon, the Switch Axe. Additionally, players can look forward to a new feature that lets them customize their very own Palico.
But first, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of what players should expect in-depth with the arrival of the latest season of Monster Hunter Now.
Monster Hunter Now’s Tundra Habitat and Monsters
Get ready to hunt in the all-new tundra habitat! Here, you’ll encounter hereto undiscovered monsters like Tigrex, Lagombi, Volvidon, and Somnacanth, as well as returning monsters like Barioth and small monsters Wulg and Cortos, all of whom haven’t been seen since the spring. By unlocking the tundra habitat, these creatures and more the habitat offers will become available to players.
Here are more specific details:
- The tundra habitat can be unlocked by completing the prologue.
- The tundra habitat will remain a permanent habitat from Season 4 onwards.
Tigrex, Volvidon, and Somnacanth will appear on the field once you have unlocked them in urgent quests within each chapter of the Season 4 story quest. This will require effort, so players must work hard to clear specific markers to unlock these unique creatures.
Here are the specifications:
- Tigrex will also appear in Hunt-a-thons and has a small chance of appearing on the field. However, it cannot be specified in the Monster Tracker.
- Lagombi will start to appear once you have completed the prologue.
- Some of the additional monsters will also appear outside the tundra habitat.

Prepare for the Switch Axe
Get ready to add the Switch Axe to your weapon lineup! The Switch Axe lets you switch skillfully between two modes: the long-reaching Axe Mode and the fast-attacking Sword Mode. Build up the Switch Gauge while in Axe Mode and use it in Sword Mode to land a devastating blow. You won’t get the Switch Axe immediately. The Switch Axe can be unlocked by completing the pre-season story Chapter 2.
New Palico Features
Hunters will now have their own customizable Palico to assist with gathering materials and marking monsters on the field! Customize your Palico’s fur color and facial features, and even give it a name. And don’t fear—you can still find the Palico you have come to know and love acting as Qualily’s assistant in the story and guides.
Players are also invited to get creative with AR in Monster Hunter Now. Capture your daily adventures with your custom Palico in real-world settings using AR photography! Make memories together.
