In Dimensionals, humanity is in trouble.
And not just in this dimension, but throughout the entire flipping multiverse, following a devastating attack by the King of Specters.
It falls to you, an intrepid young hero, to embark on a pan-dimensional rescue mission, folding the allies you save into an army strong enough to take the King of Specters down once and for all.
That’s the gloriously over-the-top setup for Dimensionals, a promising new indie game from MinoMonsters developer Mino Games that you’ll be able to play in Steam playtest from July 10th (next week).
Inspired by Saturday morning cartoons, Dimensionals is a turn-based strategy game, an RPG, and a roguelike all rolled into one.
It gives you dozens of heroes to form into teams, and hundreds of skill cards to deploy in battle. Each Dimensional has its own unique abilities, and certain combinations and formations let you unleash powerful combos.
Those skill cards, meanwhile, are dealt randomly, meaning no two runs at Dimensionals will ever be exactly the same.
You can learn which formations and teams work better against which enemies, but the uncertainty around what’s going to appear in your skill deck will keep you on your toes and subject you to the all-important slings and arrows of outrageous videogame fortune.
Dimensionals features a highly accessible, hand-crafted story campaign, with comic book cutscenes bridging the stages and driving the plot forward. It’s aimed at the widest audience as possible, with simplified, eminently approachable roguelike deckbuilder gameplay.
But if you’re looking for a challenge, you’ll find it. The Master Raid mode, for instance, is an insanely challenging ordeal that involves struggling through procedurally generated maps, taking down brutal bosses, and eventually facing off against the King of Specters himself.
Good luck with that.
With its refined gameplay, polished cartoon visuals, and top notch score from Gravity Falls composer Brad Breeck, Dimensionals is in with a chance of becoming one of 2024’s indie gaming must-plays.
You’ll have to wait till next week to play it for yourself, but if you’re looking for something to do in the meantime you can wishlist it on Steam, follow it on X and TikTok, and visit the official Dimensionals website.
