The opening theme for The Witch and the Beast (Majo to Yaju), Sokoninaru’s “Soumonka,” is now available to stream worldwide. Based on the manga written and illustrated by Kousuke Satake, The Witch and the Beast is currently airing weekly on Crunchyroll. “Soumonka” is available now on-demand worldwide (excluding mainland China), having become a hit since the series premiere.

The three-piece band Sokoninaru possesses a technical and heavy sound, utilizing their male and female vocalists for their strong harmonies. The group has been on two tours of Europe and played successful headline shows in Taiwan and Hong Kong, showing their passionate support overseas. The song “Soumonka” builds on their expected sound with robust, rock-inspired instrumentation and dramatic vocals. It perfectly fits the anime and dark fantasy setting.

The Witch and the Beast Soumonka

The manga that inspired the anime series The Witch and the Beast has sold 950,000 copies (including digital editions) worldwide. The story is serialized in Kodansha’s ‘Monthly Young Magazine.’ Our critic praised the series ability to blend it’s thematic narrative with solid character work, writing:

“As a whole, The Witch And The Beast Episode 1 is a stellar adaptation of a visually unique and fantasy-dense manga. The nuances in Guideau and Ashraf’s relationship are immediately established, and that does a lot to endear the viewer to the tale about to unfold. This only deepens as the stellar action sequences take shape.”

What is The Witch and the Beast About

Guideau: a feral girl with long fangs and the eyes of a beast. Ashaf: a soft-spoken man with delicate features and a coffin strapped to his back. This ominous pair appears one day in a town that’s in thrall to a witch, who has convinced the townsfolk she’s their hero. But Ashaf and Guideau know better. They have scores to settle, and they won’t hesitate to remove anyone in their way…

The OP “Soumonka” by Sokoninaru is available now to stream worldwide on music streaming services. Watch new episodes of The Witch and the Beast every Thursday on Crunchyroll.
