Deadpool & Wolverine gets it’s first trailer. As the sole Marvel release arriving in theaters in 2024, a lot is riding on the third Deadpool. Following the immense popularity of the prior two installments, the third film of the ‘Deadpool’ franchise marks his official entry point into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The R-rated hero is entering the previously PG-13 friendly series. Director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Reynolds reunite for the outing, and with them comes Hugh Jackman, reprising his role as Wolverine. Tim Miller and David Leitch directed the first two ‘Deadpool’ films.

The trailer begins with Wade Wilson celebrating his birthday with the friends and loved ones we’ve met. Of course the calm is broken up soon enough and suddenly he’s dubbing himself ‘Marvel Jesus.’

As part of Phase 5 of the MCU, the film comes at a critical time for the universe after a dip in popularity over the last few releases. However, Reynolds and Jackman make for a hilarious pair, especially as two characters they’ve helped bring to iconic life on screen. Considering the number of meta jokes already made at the expense of Jackman’s Wolverine and Reynolds’s previous foray into the X-Men universe, X-Men Origins: Wolverine,  there’s no shortage of the number of jokes available to them for this new installment. What’s interesting is how the director will tie-in previous installments such as Logan which seemingly gave a solid wrap to Wolverine’s story.
