Riot Games is celebrating the start of the new year with Wild Rift’s first patch of 2024, Patch 5:0: Bright Heights, arriving on January 18. League of Legends: Wild Rift Patch 5.0 includes an in-game celebration of the Lunar New Year, along with new champions, champion reworks, updates on gameplay, and more.
Our League of Legends: Wild Rift critic praised the game, writing that “if you are willing to put in the time to conquer the challenges the rift throws at players, the satisfaction of winning those battles is some of the best gaming has to offer.” Take a look at the upcoming League of Legends: Wild Rift Patch 5.0 updates.
New Champions Coming In Wild Rift Patch 5.0
- Syndra: Syndra, the Dark Sovereign, is a fearsome Ionian mage with incredible power at her command. She is a long-range, burst mage capable of controlling fights from afar and bombarding her opponents with unleashed power.
- Talon: Talon, the Blade’s Shadow, is a merciless assassin from the streets of Noxus, where he was forced to fight, kill, and steal to survive. With high mobility and a volley of daggers at his disposal, Talon can quietly slash through his enemies before even being noticed.
- Kindred: Separate, but never parted, Kindred, the Eternal Hunter, represents the twin essences of death. Lamb’s bow offers a swift release from the mortal realm for those who accept their fate, while Wolf hunts down those who run from their end, delivering violent finality within his crushing jaws.
New Champion Reworks
In time for the year of the dragon, League of Legends: Wild Rift Patch 5.0 gives Aurelion Sol, the Star Forger, a completely new set of skills and a powerful passive, enabling him to become the powerful star destroyer he’s meant to be.
Additionally, Wukong the Monkey King, will now be able to sustain longer over the course of a fight. His clones will also stick around for longer and gain the ability to mirror Wukong’s Nimbus Strike. While, Yuumi the Magical Cat, is being tweaked to improve the consistency of how she is able to support her laners, whether she’s alone or along for the ride. And lastly, Gragas the Rabble Rouser, will benefit from a handful of changes with the goal of giving him smoother gameplay.
Gameplay
New items are making their way to the Rift in League of Legends: Wild Rift Patch 5.0! The Heartsteel item from other game modes has been added to the Rift, meaning players can work towards massive health pools in every game. Additionally, the new Titanic Hydra item lends champions the ability to splash damage across multiple opponents, while Spear of Shojin grants bonuses to movement speed and basic ability cooldowns. Some existing items will also receive adjustments, and players keen on the specifics can check out the upcoming patch notes for full details.
A couple of key changes pertaining to minions will be arriving in this patch as well. The periodic siege minions will be replaced with new, slightly weaker minions, allowing teammates to roam or recall with less pressure on their structures. Second, rather than attacking the closest minions, the Rift Herald will now go straight for the enemy turret, helping the team that secured it gain a more assured advantage. League of Legends: Wild Rift Patch 5.0 also brings changes to Terrain and the Pet System.
- Terrain: An alcove is being added to the Baron Lane. Whether by using it to set up creative ganks or dodge skillshots, the new terrain gives players plenty of opportunities to outplay one another.
- Pet System: Last patch marked the arrival of the pet system. With League of Legends: Wild Rift Patch 5.0, players can now help their Chonccs evolve into different forms. More rewards await players who continue collecting furry friends!
Modes
League of Legends: Wild Rift Patch 5.0 brings updates to Arena are on the way, including the addition of 20 dragon-themed augments in celebration of the new year and an all-gloves-off clash in the ninth round, where all remaining teams can fight one another for the opportunity to win rewards and experience without losing any health.
Fans of special game modes like URF can look forward to a brand new hybrid game mode: Double Cast! In Double Cast, champions have specific timing windows in which their ability cooldowns fully refresh. Champions that rely on basic attacks more than abilities will have their attacks count as a double hit every so often, applying the effects of their basic attacks twice.
